Last week, Minn was tied with Missouri for 14-15 in Pablo. How in the world did Minn get to #10 this week and leapfrog both Oregon and Purdue in doing so? The Pablo ranking system was developed by a current university professor who wanted to overcome some deficiencies he saw in the RPI system. Pablo is points based. It doesn’t factor in sets won or lost but the total number of point differentiation in a match. Because of that it values a decisive victory more than it does a victory where there is very little difference in the total points scored. Pablo is also more predictive than RPI and in recent years the NCAA volleyball committee has used it as one of the tools beyond RPI to determine at large and seeding. Pablo does factor in whether the match was played at home, on the road, or at a neutral site. The majority of Division 1 coaches that I have talked with believe it is a much more accurate ranking system than RPI. They outscored WI 109 - 104 They outscored IA 75 - 50 I've no idea what other factors Pablo employs, but I would assume that results that differ markedly from simulated expected values become magnified. Both volleydork and evollve are getting into the branchlets beyond the main rpi trunk W-L, opp W-L, opp's opps' W-L These sites like MN (mid-teens) and it is pretty clear that RPI now is a BIG starting factor but team sheets looking at big wins & bad losses, head to heads, etc. all get factored in. But KPI (key performance indicator )has come into the picture and MN's KPI is even worse than their RPI. Why, if they also consider point differential, is this the case? no idea. Danielle Josetti, this year's committee chair, talked a lot about top 10 wins when they did a preliminary seed in October. Around the 5' mark in her conversation with Michella Chester she talked about head to head competition and then, the eye test. KPI was mentioned without elaboration in the interview. I wanted to hear "Pablo" but don't think I did.

Are you sure they've referenced Pablo? That's the first I've heard of it. Would obviously be hugely beneficial for the gophs, compared to the RPI and KPI as mentioned.

The link references " The Man Behind the Website You Visit Twice a Day" Terry Pettit Nov 20, 2017 an icon of college VB en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Pettitstill follows the game: "Last night's volleyball match between Wisconsin and Minnesota was terrific entertainment. Floor defense has advanced to another level in college" volleyball. x.com/TerryPettit1/status/1859612590302720185Lee Feinswog had last year's committee chair, Holly Strauss-O'Brian, on his video zoom with Emily E. Have to give that another listen. it's over an hour long, but I remember it as entertaining & informative with other coaches on the call. (It was after the selection show)

This is to be expected and nothing surprising here but the 5 graduating seniors are Shaff, Grote, Awoleye, McGhie, and Gray. That also means Engemen will/should come back for her last season next year.
