Ok honest question and change of topic, Wtf is it going to take to get some serious investment the volleyball program at UH? Locker rooms, training facilities, dining halls, etc? Because no matter how inconsistent the success of the women’s seasons have been, we’re still one of the tops in the nation in fanbase attendance with an actually knowledgeable community. I really hope the new AD isn’t dropping the ball here because volleyball should be the top priority. We have the potential to be good if invested into, it’s honestly not that hard to have success on the men’s side. Not a ton of competition school wise but plenty of really solid athletes at home and abroad who just want to ball out somewhere fun. A lot more high maintenance on the women’s side if I’m being completely honest. I heard the women locker rooms are up for upgrades. Not sure exactly when but heard the AD mentioned that it is on the docket. As for the weight room, it was just upgraded a few months ago and now has a nutritional bar in the room so they will be able to reap the benefits of the upgrade there. Probably the best weight room in all of the BW so no excuse there. I don’t think there is any more the administration can to do. It’s up to the players and coaches. We have tv and radio contract to broadcast each and every home game. We get newspaper coverage. Local TV news coverage and community support like the “Sistahood Grindz” where local restaurants will bring in business people from across the state and help feed the players and give them business advices to help them either manage their money or help prepare them for life after volleyball. The volleyball program, both men and women, have received BIG TIME community support. I don’t see any other program(maybe with the exception of a few P4 powerhouses) that offer so much to the student athlete like here. I just think some prospects are just not willing to put in the work. Someone like Tali is not going to be fazed by hard work. She served in the Israeli military so she can handle. The local girls all know of Robyn and how she runs the program. It’s convincing the mainland girls to come aboard and not be intimidated by the words “hard work”. Yea when you put it all out there, there are a lot of pluses in Hawaii’s favor. I truly think the age of NIL could make some athletes very delusional about what matters when cultivating a volleyball career of substance. It points more and more at the coaches and the necessity of ramping up their recruiting efforts and the athletes at development of a more competitive mindset rather than assuming playing time and good fortune will be handed to them. At the end of the day, the staff has done a lot of commendable things with players who weren’t big names out of high school, BUT I think it’s worth it to keep going after big names and keep in the minds of top recruits

Who are some 2026 being looked at? Hoping for Layli Ostavar. Another undersized outside but an absolute baller and more well rounded backcourt player. Not sure if there are any with “Hawaii ties” out there but I don’t even see that being a sustainable approach to who the program pursues aggressively anymore. She might be the best passer in her class. A powerful and crafty hitter, just undersized.

I'm surprised that Latin America hasn't been tapped (or has it?), given that we have Tali Hakas and RAM took a trip to Brazil One of the coaches of another sport spoke to this and even though the athletes are great, the issue is passing the TOEFL. Not enough English speaking teenagers out there. (who are also good at volleyball)

Yea I think she and Westley Matavao would both be really solid players that Hawaii could go after and realistically get who already possess skill sets that can continue improving vs having to really develop collegiately. I think the staff has done a solid job improving Caylen and hopefully also Stella’s passing but going after some naturals in the backrow that are also competent hitters would be a good direction. Then just go after some straight firepower on the right side and in the middle.

Should be another strong season for them, after winning a national championship .

Just saw on Amber’s Instagram that SHE was the one to reach out to Dave/Angelica/Robyn for them to come out and see her. I hope that we have improved at least a bit more than only going after athletes that reach out and show interest. Although yes that’s probably the best way to insure a commit, I think there has to be some more aggressive pursuit. Layli already follows the program so that should be enough to have whoever is on the recruiting trail this summer present at all of her games

No big transfers would want to play for assistant coaches like Costello and Baxter, compared to coach Ang. Hawaii’s main issue is recruiting.

Still think we should hire Isaac Kneubuhl onto the staff as a third assistant. Just something that shows we’re trying to actively working towards better and he’d be a great sell towards training hitters. We probably would get so much more out of our undersized outsides and our taller recruits that don’t have much recognition because of their mechanics/experience.
