With the way this season is going, she may make the top 6 Lets say on average, she averages 18 kills per match, as MINIMUM, getting into the first round of the big west tournament, she will be at 570 kills. If we get past that, possibly up to 624 Lets say she averages around that next season too She can get to around 1600 kills, which would put her at 6. She may go down as one of the best to ever play for us when her career is done, and that is saying alot. Skies the limit for her and I want nothing but the best for this star

We have a player as good as Caylen, along with an experienced setter and libero--it feels like we should be better.
Next season I hope Caylen doesn't get as much kills--because we will have a better team around her so that she avoids taking so many swings! (Plus we'll have a new setter--Arquette and Matias seem to be in a big struggle over that #2 setting spot)

She might end up in Louisville or play her Senior year closer to home. Maybe Florida or auburn.

Given we have much of this season to go, I hope our current team doesn't lose a whole lot to the transfer portal. We have very few pieces in a small roster, but enough of a core to have a much more consistent year next year if everyone returns and we can add some point scorers from the portal along with our recruits coming in. The hard part is even a Guersching remained until the end the Spring semester and that messed up a lot for our depth. A lot can change even after the Fall portal closes... I don’t think Alexander will stick around for her senior year. Her best bet is to transfer to a top program. There are so many top notch OH graduating this year that Penn State, Wisconsin, USC, Texas or Louisville would be a great fit for her.

What will it take before Hawaii finds a new coach. I don't have time to find a new program worthy of following. Go away forever then

We have all that coming in. Chalei Reid (OH), Kahea Moriwaki (L/DS) and Rachel Purser (MB/OPP) The third verbal was Makena Biondi and not Purser. If UH wants a true OPP, they need to get Veronika Petrova and let her grow. Her highlights has her hitting tons of D sets so she has that shot down pretty good already. She’s about 6-1 and has a fairly good reach of 10ft. Yea Purser is not until 2026 season. But I also cannot find a verbal commit straight from Biondi

I just know that schools will be after Caylen after the type of season she is having. I'm not predicting that she will leave. She might stay simply because she is content where she is, but, she has a huge upside, and it is naive to think that she won't be courted by other programs. It's not enough to rely on loyalty anymore, and that is why it's a test for the Hawai'i program.

Some reciprocation will be needed moving forward.

Yeah, if Alexander entered the portal every top team would reach out. Hawaii's marquee players like Igiede and Lang just truly embraced this program, state, and fanbase. It's not easy sticking it out anymore all four years at any school.
I am not trying to stir any trouble, but like I mentioned earlier, Hawaii has a core group that can really build for 2025 if they stick together, along with the incoming class and a couple strong transfers in. But any transfers out would set back the team no question. And this past season's lack of transfers puts some question into Hawaii's ability to replenish should any of the top players leave.

I don’t think Alexander will stick around for her senior year. Her best bet is to transfer to a top program. There are so many top notch OH graduating this year that Penn State, Wisconsin, USC, Texas or Louisville would be a great fit for her. When I first read this i thought it was just trolling, but it does draw light on an interesting phenomenon created by the transfer portal. Suddenly transferring is a whole lot easier. Coupled with a generation raised with Netflix and Youtube that expects immediate gratification, this could be a great handicap to the development of better players in NCAA volleyball. We have seen a lot of growth from Lang even as a four year starter (her decision making, poise and leadership) and Alexander (especially this year with her shot selection, conditioning and comsistency). They are not perfect, but have become better players since coming in. This made me want to look back on 2021's freshman class: Leoniak- starter as freshman, fantastic backrow player being dig leader in many matches; bad frontrow- lots of errors and low pct, especially for someone 6'5" De Goede- part time starter, showed glimpses of being a game changer with ability to impact in the backrow and the net; struggled with consistency and more importantly injuries Johnson- part time starter, great attacker, showed flashes of being a go-to before transferring Kiraly- part time starter, good attacker and blocker; consistency issues and had health issues Dimirtas- arrived late, didn't see any action; huge upside being a 6'5" opp. So we had three potential senior opposites, (four if you count Kiraly, but i didnt): one stayed but struggled with injuries, but two took advantage of the transfer portal. Add to that Johnson who would have been a perfect compliment to Alexander this season. I can't help but think if the three transfers had stayed and developed like Lang and Alexander we may have a very different team right now. I am assuming Dimiritas transferred due to playing time. Leoniak maybe also playing time (being benched a few times durring the season) but more than likely due to Hawaii being a bad fit. Johnson was a tough one, because that was an effort to be closer to home- always will be an issue here. Anyway, I think it's ironic, because I think most of these players choose their schools based on hopes of eventually being recognized as an elite player. Either they believe they are already that elite player and need recognition (reason for choosing a P5/top10 school), or they choose the school they think will develop them into that top player (which Hawaii has shown it can do). For players like Igiede and Alexander (at this point), I find it hard to imagine them transferring, especially from a school that developed them AND got them national recognition, but i guess there are always other reasons it could happen. Hopefully the coaching staff is prepared to hear any potential reasons and overcome them because it is making me look forward to 2025 to think the kind of player Caylen Alexander could be her senior year. On a side note: this could have been a pretty damn good team if it weren't for the transfer portal- we would definitely fill that big question mark at opp along with the currently glaring inability to stop a dominant LS attack. The backrow play would also be a hell of a lot more consistent just with Leoniak, although they have shown a lot of upside. It's sad to think that the method Hawaii has used for so long in volleyball might become a thing of the past because of the transfer portal.
