There's always been a few mid-majors like Creighton, BYU, and Dayton in the rankings and I've made the argument in the past that with our facilities, history, fan base, etc. that we should be the top ranked mid-major every year. We haven't been ranked 5 of the last 7 years under Robyn and I don't see that changing any time soon with what we have now and what we have coming in. If she pulls a recruiting miracle from the transfer portal this off-season maybe, but I don't see that happening... What could make it much worse is if Caylen Alexander decides to enter the Transfer Portal, at the end of this season. With what is returning and supposedly incoming next season, there will not be a so called "GoTo" player on the roster. Wahine fans need to keep their fingers and toes crossed, that Caylen Alexander does not enter the Transfer Portal. I've been saying since the transfer portal window closed last year and Robyn was unable to get any transfers from the portal that with a 13 player roster we are one injury away from total disaster. Knock on wood so far that hasn't happened.

I would love to know the real truth about why those players that left the Wahine program, why they left. I have my opinion but I would like to know some of the opinions here. LOL I am sure most on here can take a good guess as to what I think why they transferred out LOL...all the hugging the coaches are doing this year with the players is a lame attempt to rectify that IMHO

Will Robyn do what Charlie Wade has done, bring in a ton of talent, remembering Charlie has less scholarships available. Or, will she just sit back with the players she has returning, including the ones that have committed. If she does the latter, the Wahine Team will be again, one injury away from total disaster.

Could it be that they know what good coaching is. I will leave it at that.

Could it be a communication problem??? Hmmm.... I don't have any first hand information so IDK. As I've mentioned on here before, I have 3 daughters that all played Intermediate, HS, Club, and one was a scholarship college player so I've seen them being coached by a lot of different coaches over the years and they've had some really good coaches but also some really terrible coaches - coaches that yelled non-stop at their players, to coaches that only used negative reinforcement as their main coaching tool, to coaches that would lie and play head games with their players, to coaches that play favorites with their players and don't even care to hide it, and even coaches that really didn't know what they were doing and would ask the players in time-outs what they think they should do (LOL)! So it could be any reason why there is a "massive exodus due to transfers", as Psychopotamus so eloquently stated, and why she's failed to recruit from the transfer portal this past off-season.

I was thinking about this the other day as well, and thought that the next coach for Hawaii volleyball would probably have ties to Hawaii, either have played for UH (man or woman), comes from Hawaii or has family from Hawaii. Also, Jaylen would never become head coach for Hawaii womans volleyball, too much of an ego to become a coach in the mountain west, knowing him he wants to stay in the BIG at all costs. I guess we could get interest from Scott Wong or Kevin Wong or I think Kawika Shoji would be an interesting one (trade a setter for a setter). I agree BUT you never know who could be interested. Aside from the names mentioned, Dan Fisher maybe? I think someone in house would be good too - moving Charlie Wade over to take over the women's team (and Milan would be elevated to Men's HC) would be a good option. Look at what he and Milan did for the Men's program. I think we'd be surprised at who would apply for the job. Take UH Baseball as an example. Who knew that Rich Hill would be interested and get the job? He's been a terrific addition and an upgrade from Trapasso... Let’s just shut down the Charlie Wade idea altogether. Kainoa is going into his freshman season as a warrior, Wade is sticking with that team at the bare minimum until he’s gone.

I can with 10000 percent confidence tell you Dave absolutely did not recommend Robyn…. That I know for a fact. And I’m 95 percent sure Scott turned it down Kevin never really wanted to get into coaching at this level either You know Dave personally and he told you that? How do you know with 10,000%(!) certainty? It may be the case but that's not what I heard. I don't have any personal knowledge just what I have heard from fellow boosters that were closer to the situation than me that know both of them personally. It was being widely discussed by the boosters at that time that Scott Wong was one of three finalists and that Dave recommended to Matlin that they hire Robyn which rubbed some of the boosters that wanted Scott Wong as the new coach the wrong way. I don't know who the 3rd finalist was and I don't think they ever released who they were. Since you seem to have better inside info than me, do you know who the 3rd finalist was? I can tell you that the AD is the one who picked Robyn to interview and called her. She wasn’t going too at first. The Scott thing I may be wrong about, it may have just been Kevin. I was always under the impression Rubio was one of the candidates. I know Hawaii was a “dream” job of his, and I was told it was a pac 12 coach but may be wrong. I’m not entirely sure. But I’m almost positive Scott turned it down. May be wrong about that info But I can promise you the AD is who pushed for Robyn not Dave

I can also you tell you Fischer was asked for Hawaii
Said no
As we all know, he almost went to Penn state
Was about to sign on the dotted line and pulled out
He won’t leave Pitt anytime soon.

Despite the rumors, I am certain that Robyn was called by the AD prior to the closing deadline and asked to apply, that Robyn was not on Shoji’s list, and that no else was actually offered the job other than Robyn.
I get the homer fascination with the Shoji brothers—they are accomplished players and good people—but they have very little personal experience coaching women’s volleyball, and despite the lineage, appointing either one as head coach is a huge stretch (and gamble).

I agree about the Shoji's. I'd rather have someone who actually has D1 coaching experience. The media was reporting that there were 3 finalists for the job and that all 3 were interviewed. Wouldn't doubt that they always had Robyn in mind and were just going through the motions...

He wouldn't be my first choice. I was just throwing out his name because someone else said they should have ties to Hawaii but you never know!

I would truly love Hawaii to go after Josh Walker, as their next Head Coach of the Wahine Team. Currently, I believe he is the Associate Head Coach of the Women's Program at TCU. Josh could have the Shoji brothers as his assistant coaches. The one good thing about having Josh Walker as the Head Coach is that Charlie Wade and Milan Zarkovic are right down the hall way if he has any questions. It would be good to have Kawika Shoji coaching the Setters and his brother coaching the back row players. Josh Walker can take care of the Middles and Outside Hitters.
