Maybe I watched the wrong 10 minutes but that looked pretty rough. Is this open division?

Transpacific didn’t seem to have open division - it was more like 17-18s that were tiered over the weekend based on how teams did in pool play. This is Mau Loa 17s vs SAS 18s. The championship match had Kuikahi 18s (with Malu Garcia, Uluave (byu) and that Texas walk on setter) vs that SAS 18s team featuring Arquette.

Honestly if there’s anything I learned from Caylen Alexander, it’s to not judge off of early season club games. Even my take on Maddie Way I think should be taken with a grain of salt. Athletes will significantly up their game when surrounded by a team of other D1 players the staff has specifically recruited to complement each other.

Rewatching some Wahine volleyball due to boredom, the Big West Tournament mostly. Lang really was robbed of Setter of the Year. Watching the Long Beach game again and its just a struggle watching Meyer. I guess she doesn't rely on bump setting since it probably slows down the pace they are trying to go at, but like its just giving away points sometimes when she could just get a bump set off instead of a open hand set.

I'm surprised at how poor the play is by both teams.

I often think "fast tempo" setters get way more awards than they normally deserve. Like running a fast-tempo offense is very hard--much harder than a slower one, especially when the passing isn't well. But at some point we have to look whether or not they are actually running it well and how accurate their location is. I don't think it's just a Meyer thing is happens on the national level too.

On the plus side Mili makes it to block pins pretty quickly I think with a better setter (lang or Arquette) she will be doing better

Just because she can terminate OOS and make average setters look good Chalei also missed a season of volleyball last season due to her not playing. It’s unfortunate she lost a year of progress. Hopefully, she will be able to work out more on her own and maybe train with former/current UH players in the offseason to make up for the lost year. Playing with older and more experienced players will allow her to get use to the speed and power of D1 level players so she will be prepared to contribute when she’s on campus in the fall of 2025. She and Mili have probably established some kind of friendship already so whenever there are open gyms, they need to get out there and play and train. Mili has about 6 months before becoming a D1 player. Chalei will have a year and a half but both can work out for the next six months to help each other improve their games.

I’m old and I don’t know how to share a link, I also don’t have tic tok but my daughter just sent me a video Maddie way posted and apparently she tore her Labrum in her hip. She’s 3 days post op.

Cha'lei #10 playing with Mili #24 both in black. With Adrianna playing on the other side #27 in white This was not very promising on either side.

in reality, though, Mau Loa does not currently have an 18's team. Mili is a recent add-on, she may be 17, but her experience with higher-aged group teams would put her in the 18's, limited play as a middle requires her to have more reps with that setter, since she doesn't serve first and then come out, her contribution again, is limited. And Chalei is a class year younger, but in all honesty, her skill level is much more advance than the rest of the starters other than Mili. It's something they have to learn when playing with younger teammates either in age or skills. It can teach everyone patience and humility.

That's too bad. that's like a 4-6 month recovery time If that is the case, we either need to go after another MB or have Purcell Telefoni play MB her freshman year to make up for Maddie. There is no other player on the current roster that can make a move one to the middle. I doubt Adrianna will want to experiment with that to potentially see the court as a back up middle so Malinah is going to be the logical choice….despite some people not being too high on her as a D1 level player.

Adrianna plays middle if needed We have Bamis. we have Sylvester. Purcell can play there IF needed. Plus she should start taking reps soon if recovery time is 4-6 months. I think well be ok
