It's really tough to gauge this team with Jacyn having to go a full 6 rotations in the middle.

Maybe the fans were expecting too much. We lost both our MBs so you know blocking will be an issue. Also, with no middle, Kate had to almost always set to the pin.
With a good MB, our offense would be more diverse and would open up lanes for our OH to hit. Bamis at .130 is not good. If she doesn’t improve, Robyn is going to have to find a MB in the portal.
Mili could come in and shock the world but we need the second middle to at least be good(if not very good) to avoid getting stuck in bad rotations.
I think our pins will do fine. Caylen will be a stud. Paula, with one year under her belt, should be much Improved. Stella is still a little wet behind the ears and an off season of working with Kate should pay dividend in late August when the season starts.

Stella is still a little wet behind the ears and an off season of working with Kate should pay dividend in late August when the season starts. Good observations^. UH wasn't setting the middle much, understandably, and UNLV was able to camp on the pins. Lang set a nice match with the limitations and too many errant passes. Serve receive needs work, but honestly better than I expected to see for the first spring matchup. We've got some nice offensive firepower with Caylen, Paula, and Stella. Hakas does look a bit behind that trio, but small sample size so nothing conclusive. Bamis wasn't a big presence on the block but she can get some kills. Ikenaga was good. Leyva has a good serve, she looks confident, but didn't get a lot of court time. Lane played lib#2, did ok but Ikenaga the easy call to start over her. Mili was at the match, in the stands. If she'd of been on the court it would have been the Wahine in three.

i know its only a couple of highlight clips but i like what i see from stella! i think caylen/paula/stella on the pins could be really fun.
i'm not too worried about bamis's performance just because she was playing the full 6 rotations. i know amber played 6 rotations in those scrimmages but i think we can all agree that amber was just an elite athlete and expecting bamis to replicate the same performance, especially when she wasn't starting, is simply unrealistic. it does worry me how young we're gonna be at position though

Our take at the match, this is essentially spring training. This is about accessing where the team is at for the coaches, what they need to work on, the assets that they have versus the deficit. It’s giving players the reps in game they need, that experience will pay off when season starts. Some players who were starters last season already at mid season shape. That valuable time that both Kate and Caylen spent at the US national training center is evident. Stella is the unsurprising surprize. Knowing her high school accolades, she has the skills, but her growth into D1 was amazing. All she needs is more experience and with Coach Rob, she will be seen. This is the process in action. There were 11 and with the four incoming, something tells me there could be a transfer slot for the taking. Probably a middle. Not sure if there is a schollie available though.

Adeyemi gets her groove on as Rainbow Wahine outlast UNLV in 5By Billy HullDARRYL OUMI / SPECIAL TO THE STAR-ADVERTISER Hawaii’s Stella Adeyemi soared for an attempted kill against a UNLV double block during Tuesday’s exhibition match at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.Watching Hawaii go through pregame warmups last season, No. 1 in green and white would always stand out. Freshman Stella Adeyemi, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Papillion, Neb., would crush a few of her warmup swings as hard as any other Rainbow Wahine out there. She had her moments on the court, playing in eight matches with 15 kills and a .300 hitting percentage, but the four-time defending Big West Conference champions were an experienced squad with six seniors. This spring, those six seniors are gone and only 11 players suited up for Tuesday’s 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-13 win over UNLV in a spring exhibition game attended by 925 people at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Adeyemi played the first three sets and had 10 kills and three aces, showing the ability to attack from anyplace on the court. “I think she’s made a really huge leap in the spring,” Hawaii coach Robyn Ah Mow said. “Hitting, we knew she could hit. It’s just all of the other things. But during the spring, the last five weeks, she came dialed in. I think she’s the only one that every practice she came in and was just dialed.” After UNLV forced a fifth set, Adeyemi came back in and had three kills, including the match-clincher on her third try, to finish with 13 kills. “I think I’ve learned a lot and I just kind of took that and really focused in on what I need to work on in the spring,” Adeyemi said. “I kept working (on match point) and just have got to keep going on those, but it was great.” Caylen Alexander finished with a match-high 18 kills and 12 digs and Paula Guersching added 13 kills. Tayli Ikenaga had a match-high 17 digs. Defensive specialist Victoria Leyva, the one newcomer in the spring who enrolled early as a freshman out of El Paso, Texas, substituted into the game for the first time in the third set and promptly served up one of Hawaii’s 10 aces. Redshirt junior Jacyn Bamis, the only middle blocker on Hawaii’s roster, played the entire match and was allowed to play all six rotations in the front row. She finished with 10 kills and four blocks. Both teams played the match like a regular-season game, with challenges and timeouts, especially late in the fifth set. UH trailed 10-8 in the fifth set before winning seven of the final 10 points. UNLV junior libero Alyssa Muraoka, a Mid-Pacific alumna, had eight digs and an ace, and Isha Knight, a Kamehameha graduate, had two digs. Hawaii is playing three spring exhibition matches in three days, with Colorado State up next tonight.

To add, Paula is at 100 percent. Her hitting is steady like last season, but her improvement in her back-row defense will keep her in the starting line-up. Tali played with Jackie setting in set two, the connection is still improving. Her back-row is steady like last season. Jacyn had some nice kills, step outs, and 2's she is comfortable with them, the 1's is improving. She gets the stalwart award for playing six-rotations with no breaks. Colby rotated in as libero, she was steady.
