Sometime during a lull in the 3rd set a Formico-KWJ reference will be made by the broadcasting crew.

I'm enjoying the humor in this thread. This match is so unpredictable because both teams are capable of playing great, but are also capable of not showing up. I don't know all the reasons why Texas is up and down. As for Stanford, usually we have most players playing well, and a couple taking the night off. It is rare that we have all 3 pins play well in the same match. Usually it is two, and usually it is enough. Texas middles are better than Stanford middles. OH's I give the edge to Stanford, but it depends on if they show up. Kipp vs Skinner: that is splitting hairs. Both are elite. They were both amazing on Friday; but I would have to give the edge to Skinner, and she finished stronger. In the 5th set against Tennessee she had super powers. Incredible. Setting goes to Stanford. Libero Stanford. Overall defense Texas. Passing Stanford. I don't really think we can shut down Skinner. Slowing her down would be nice. Personally I would focus on shutting down the other pins, or at least one of them. It worked for us in 2016 when we took Paulina Prieto Cerame out of the game. But we had Inky then. I'm sure Hambly will come up with a good plan. The difference between these two teams is that Stanford is an elite passing team and Texas is average. If Stanford can stay in system and keep Texas out of system they win. Of course in a single match things happen..... Stanford is without a doubt the better passing team by a country mile. But I’ll tell you what. Their defense can absolutely disappear at times. I’m not saying Texas is some kind of shutdown outfit, but they can be an elite blocking squad. I consider Texas a decent underdog in this one. IMO they need some help. But Stanford is fully capable of giving it to them. Texas needs extreme output from their two stars in O’Neal and Skinner. I also think Stanford is the better serving team, but Texas is really good as well. If they can put additional pressure on Stanford’s serve receive than they did in the first match that would be helpful. I’d say Texas has a puncher’s chance. Not much more than that in my mind, though. I’m excited about the match and hopeful about the outcome, but to me it will still be an amazing season if Texas falls short of Tampa, whereas there will be grumbling at The Farm if Hambly’s squad misses the Final Four yet again.

how come texas' name is not on the thread title? just curious i think bc the asu-stanford match was so late, a lot of east coasters didn’t see it and baytree prob didn’t want to have a spoiler (with stanford/texas) in the title of this thread when it was first made ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Of course in a single match things happen..... I hope Baird is ready to pass today, she's going to be working all match ASU, particularly Levinska, Shields and Jeter were serving some of the toughest float serves I have ever seen this season in the regional semis to Baird and Oglivie almost exclusively. It wasn’t pretty at times. I don’t know how tough of a serving team Texas is but I expect Baird to get all of the serves today. She is going to be okay.

how come texas' name is not on the thread title? just curious My bad. I made it right after Stanford beat ASU. We aren't supposed to put the names in the titles until the day after the match bc of spoilers. I forgot to change it when I updated last night.

Of course in a single match things happen..... I hope Baird is ready to pass today, she's going to be working all match Baird is passing really well this year. ~2.22. Her passing stats aren't really different from Oglivie. Rubin is ~2.36. All three Stanford passers are high end. Doesn't mean they won't make mistakes but thinking you can pick on Baird isn't true. Texas OTOH has Halter at ~2.22 and all of the others around 2.0.....

I'm going to have a huge breakfast and do laundry. where should I go for brunch here in Palo Alto? Preferably to include many many mimosas. Also heard some guy call it PA, but he was ordering casamigos so I didn’t trust his judgment enough to also say it. Is PA a thing?

So, so much false modesty so far: "Well, I hope my team can give the other team a game. We got lucky last night."
How about some brutal honesty modesty?
Texas' setter has a hurt foot/leg. She can't jump set since. She hasn't back set since. And her blocking is down. And she's a freshman. Texas as an OH2 that doesn't get pulled when she's doing bad. EVER.
My prediction for my Horns at the 1/4 mark of the season: Elite Eight team, but doesn't make it into the Final Four.
My predictions before tournament started: A&M - 4 set win
SMU - 3 set win
Tennessee - 5 set win
Stanford - 4 set loss
Okay stanfordvb you're a frienemy of Texas. Whatcha go?

Betting odds Texas +230 Stanford-350 Over/under 176.5 Total points There’s betting odds? I haven’t seen that before. Thanks for posting. I’m not a gambler even a little bit. Don’t even completely approve of it. But it’s good for the growth of the sport. There may be gambling odds for all the matches and I just wasn’t aware of it. Someone start a podcast!
