I have no idea what the actual facts are, but UW policy is (as far as I know) to honor the preferred names and gender identities of their students and staff, so I would hope that the story that has been presented here (that an offer was made and then pulled) is not true. im sure we'll hear more as time passes, but if the rumor is true that the UW program was completely unaware of this athletes situation, the girls on the team could've said they were uncomfortable once finding and then the offer was taken away. In probably 95% of D1 programs, the coaches consult their players on new recruits. I spoke to some of my friends who currently play D1 about this and they said that they do not think their team would okay with this situation at all. this isn't my opinion so no one attack im just giving another perspective of what couldve happened with the offer being taken away. As sad as it may be, that commitment, if followed through with could backfire majorly on UW. I'm almost positive they would lose roster personnel and miss out on recruits It was D3, so no scholarships involved, but a friend coached a trans athlete back in 2016-17 on the west coast and the team didn’t seem to care. We’re talking about Seattle here, not Provo.

To suggest someone is transphobic or homophobic for opposing the inclusion of biologically-born males in girls/womens sports is entirely unfair. I have trans friends and I have gay friends. I support them no differently than I support all my friends. I don't support every belief or action among my gay friends, any more or less, than I support every belief or action of my non-gay friends. We disagree on things sometimes, but my love for them sn't predicated on total agreement.

But if that were the case, let me just ask here: if a bunch of white players on a team said they would be uncomfortable if the coach recruited a black player, would that be considered an acceptable reason for the coach not to recruit the black player? Sophistry.

Most logical and sane people know that NCAA sports is divided into male and female divisions, based on sex, not gender or supposed gender or anything else. And they are not transphobic for believing so. The hate and rhetoric from the trans and LGBTQ community on this board is pretty sickening. Mental illness is real. IDK when did the APA change its classification of being gay as a 'mental' illness, but maybe you are still on board with that? Feel free to share! I'd also like to point out the 'LGTBQ' community certainly is NOT unified in this. There are plenty of people within that community (Even within the 'T' !) who have varying opinions on the topic of trans athletes in sports.

y'all trying to defend title IX are the exact ones to complain when athletes use their platforms to get political WHEN TITLE IX IS INHERENTLY POLITICAL.

She’s just trailer park trash. She’s fighting for the integrity of her sport. Something that all women’s group should be doing. After all we care about women right? Or do we care about politics more than protecting women’s sports?

She’s just trailer park trash. If anything she is an over privileged white girl which people probably hate more than trailer park trash. Pretty sure her parents went to Vanderbilt. She was also the SEC All Scholar athlete of the year in 2023. She is not some dumb piece of trash. If anyone has a right to have an opinion it would be her who literally watched a male collage junior swimmer switch to a women for their senior year and set a bunch of women’s college swimming records all while identifying as a lesbian women. I agree the UW case is different but what Lia Thomas did was ridiculous and most gay/transgender people I have spoken to agree.
