Randomly checking on 2024 season tickets this morning:
- Season ticket renewal starts TOMORROW, May 1st, through May 15. You'd think there would have been an email by now...
- Prices going up, and not by a little: Gold - $350 plus $250 "contribution" Silver - $280 plus $100 "contribution" Bronze - $238 plus $50 "contribution" Red - $210 GA - $140

So if you want to read tomorrow's news today: uwbadgers.com/sports/2017/3/30/volleyball-season-ticket-information.aspxIIRC prices were flat from the 2022 to 2023 season. It was the 2021 to 2022 season (which included the new Gold seating options and renovations that required) that really had the big hike. Edit: after a little more research it looks like this chart shows the seating contributions for each seating tier for the 2023 season (i.e., only Gold had a contribution threshold). I'm guessing about these numbers but here's what I _think_ the prices per tier were last year: Gold: $280 (+$250 contribution) Silver: $210 [Edit, thank you robtearle , I was initially incorrect about this, I had guessed $225] Bronze: $190 Red: $170 GA: $84 [Edit, thank you schmidty, I initially guessed $115] Again, these are guesses. So by my math prices are going up about 25% per tier, plus new seating contributions for the Silver and Bronze folks.

But you're leaving out the "contribution", which is new this year for silver, and bronze. My silver ticket last year was maybe $220; this year it's gonna cost maybe $390 or so.

So, for fear of seeming dumb and speaking as someone who does not typically have to think about buying a season ticket, what is the point of having the cost split up as a ticket price and a contribution? Why not one price? Is it just to lighten the psychological blow? Is the contribution tax deductible somehow?

Why not one price? Is it just to lighten the psychological blow? Is the contribution tax deductible somehow? Prior to federal tax reform in 2018, yes, the contribution was tax deductible for donors. It is possible there is some accounting tactics that the athletic department could do too, I wouldn't know. Following that reform that went away, but for the purposes of what's "printed" on the ticket (not that tickets are printed anymore), the price is the only thing that matters, not the RMPSC. This has _some_ implications for reselling but in general there's no real point to splitting them up.

I don’t know if it’s true at Wisconsin, but at some other schools the contributions accumulate as donor points. Higher points get things like first crack at upgrading seats or parking assignments, season ticket opportunities for other sports, etc.

That is correct. Seating contributions help with your donor ranking at tournament time.

Smrek/Booth 24' would've sold a lot better since they're both similar height and having two girls over 6'7" would be a better marketing.

That’s >$40 per match for red and >$20 for silver, all told. Wonder about the thinking behind that. At what price does it become a disincentive to buy extra season tickets for later resell? What are typical prices for single game tickets?
