The rule is the same (fault for full body part over the line unless going under doesn't interfere with the opponent). Officiating the "under the net" rule that strictly would be nearly impossible, but at a minimum, I think it's how young players should get trained to ingrain the idea in them. I'm not sure why my proposal would be nearly impossible to officiate. On the contrary, I think it would be easier to officiate. It's like if the ball is in or out, the application of the rule it's really open for interpretation. Whether or not you see the ball in or out, is subjective, but the rule is pretty clear. As a rule, "full body part" and "doesn't interfere with play" sounds a lot more open to interpretation than not crossing the line at all. ”Doesn't interfere with play” can be subjective, but since 99.9% of the time we’re talking about feet, “full body part over the line” is going to be clearly evident. For ball in or out, you’re only looking at one thing, is the single ball that’s on the court in or out. To officiate if so much as a sliver of someone’s shoe [edited typo] passes the center line, you’d routinely require officials to be able to tell whether six different feet touched a line located where really no official is in a good position to judge. Then also tell who it was and who touched first.

Then also tell who it was and who touched first. To me, "feet clearly over the line" is not so evident. It's just rarer, so you are faced with the difficult judgements less often. They are also judging BR attack line violations very precisely, but they are a bit rarer, and not behind the ball like someone landing after a swing or block. Don't get me started on net touches! But my issue is that you can clearly interfere with play by not having feet clearly over the line, so the law doesn't really accomplish what it's supposed to. The only thing preventing enforcement of a stricter rule is convenience of officiating. It seems like a lot of problems could be solved by just have a pressure sensitive touch sensors across the midline. I don't think that would be too hard to set up - certainly cheaper than good cameras.

On pins and needles here. Feels like if Sarah's injury was more to the minor side, we'd hear sooner. The longer this goes the more concerned I'm getting.

You're talking to yourself again. You're the person who mentioned "surgery" in reference to absolutely no information earlier, and now...? You're working your drama out in public. 🫣 So what, nothing wrong to speculate, I'm only guessing. It's what fans do whenever star players potentially get injured and no diagnosis comes out yet.

Wasn’t Sarah Franklin supposed to miss last season for something a lot more serious than a rolled ankle? My guess is that she’s going to be perfectly fine.

Blood clots due to a shoulder issue that could have been career-ending but turned out to be Quadrilateral Space Syndrome, which is still bad but not catastrophic. They were able to surgically repair it and she rehabbed really well.

But, I really doubt this is going to be career ending. We really thought that she might never play again. That's way more serious.

I find it annoying because it rules people up for, potentially, no reason at all.

The video showed Sarah rolling an ankle. She walkedoff the court on her own. She stayed on the bench. She was smiling. She walked in and of the huddle during time outs. USA Volleyball had trainers and staff onsite—I don’t think they would have let her walk on it if the knee was loose.
I know the knee can be injured when rolling an ankle and I know a rolled ankle can break the tarsals or lead to a slow-healing sprain, but I choose to assume no information is simply no information until there’s a reason to think otherwise.

They showed her sitting within ice bag on her ankle. It is clearly not a knee injury.
