With the logjam and depth at MB and RS I think Tosia may have to redshirt. I have a feeling she may not get playing time and she may likely end up like Wrobel and Jardine who was stuck behind depth (although Wrobel had injury issues and in hindsight, Jardine should've never been recruited in the first place, it should've been a good DS especially with Sage's injury history even then) and ultimately left. Smrek and Booth have shown to be durable and CC and maybe even Devyn have injury history so the team may bear that in mind to against redshirting Tosia. However I can see both Anna and Devyn playing OPP so Tosia would be decept depth for Carter and CC.
So far at MB/RS is.
- Smrek (MB/OPP) - Robinson (MB/OPP) - Booth (MB) - CC (MB) - Tosia (MB)

Plus, Smrek, Robinson and CC are all gone after this year. Tosia will be in the MB mix next year with Wardlow, Booth and in the RS mix with Horner and maybe Wardlow. I think that's a good mix. Depending on how injuries play out this may be a RS year for her but I think that is OK for someone coming from overseas. Not everyone adjusts as well as Julia. Gives her time to get settled academically and personally.

Wish Punzel would move to a different platform than Twitter so I don't have to deal with all the dreck on there, but he has posted pics of new displays of badger history in the Corridors of the field house.

I know Smrek, CC and Robinson will be gone after this year, which is why they could save an extra year of eligibility for Tosia by redshirting especially if the middle/opposites stay healthy which could be great to help her adjust since not everyone adjusts well as you mentioned but I do know there is a risk in redshirting her should the middle/opposites get hammered by injuries although as I said, Smrek and Booth have been durable, it's CC and Robinson that could be a problem and also the OHs could potentially get hammered by injuries which I hope not.

I've been VERY vocal about sports people hopping over to Threads, which is POPPING right now on certain topics (politics and music/creative endeavors). Sports topics on Threads just needs a little nudge, so if you're still on Twitter, please message people like Punzel to also post on Threads (I deleted all three of my Twitter accounts).

We'll know more about the lay of the land after Louisville, Stanford and Texas.

There was a fair amount of activity about the Olympics, but mainstream american sports journalism (football, baseball, basketball, hocket) is definitely lagging.

You don't have to declare a redshirt ahead of time, as far as I know. As long as she doesn't play in a competitive match, she can burn her first year of eligibility next year instead of this. If they need her this year, she can step in and forgo the redshirt at any time. I don't think we have to worry about this.

I have seen some freshmen (maybe it was for MN) who were dressed for 2/3 of the year but never played and then at some point were on the bench not dressed, so you kinda knew the redshirt decision was likely nearly final (bar major emergency, or they had a nagging injury I guess).

Correct do not have to declare before season: but as would assume a collaborative discussion to get the athlete on board is a common strategy. Many vb coaches wish they could do what football has the option of employing: in D1FB a player can play in the first 4 games and then sit out rest of year and still redshirt.

I think Devyn is going to a massive improver to AA level this year should she get a lot of court time. Maybe GG improves on her serve receive because that killed us last year against Texas or all of out DS improves their serve receive because the team especially with Anna on the court is really good out of system now. We'll see if the new recruits will make it or not.

Right now there's really only two question marks in the starting lineup, everyone else should be cemented barring injuries or some huge surprises. Frank, Orzol, Booth, Smrek, and Devyn are going to be starting. Charlie will start, whether it's in the 5-1 or 6-2 like everyone keep trying to speculate. The only big question is who's the libero? (and in the case of 5-1), who's the DS for the RS? Of course, if Tosia comes in like Dana in her freshman year, or TSC somehow finds her inner Pressley in preseason, and displace someone I mentioned above, I will be more than happy to be wrong. But the chances of either of those scenarios happening are almost nil to none.

The big question seems to be how will Sheff deploy Devyn for maximum advantage?
