Someone is going to have a massive pre season and will start cementing their spot in the starting side. I think Devyn is going to a massive improver to AA level this year should she get a lot of court time. Maybe GG improves on her serve receive because that killed us last year against Texas or all of out DS improves their serve receive because the team especially with Anna on the court is really good out of system now. We'll see if the new recruits will make it or not. ? ? Devyn is already an AA....twice....3X if you count Honorable Mention. Right now there's really only two question marks in the starting lineup, everyone else should be cemented barring injuries or some huge surprises. Frank, Orzol, Booth, Smrek, and Devyn are going to be starting. Charlie will start, whether it's in the 5-1 or 6-2 like everyone keep trying to speculate. The only big question is who's the libero? (and in the case of 5-1), who's the DS for the RS? Of course, if Tosia comes in like Dana in her freshman year, or TSC somehow finds her inner Pressley in preseason, and displace someone I mentioned above, I will be more than happy to be wrong. But the chances of either of those scenarios happening are almost nil to none. Franklin, Robinson, Smrek, and Booth could (should?) all be first team All-Americans this year.

in D1FB a player can play in the first 4 games and then sit out rest of year and still redshirt. That was the old rule. The new rule is that it can be in ANY 4 games now. If a team doesn't use a freshman at all in the first 8 games, they can get nuts with the freshman in the last 4 games of the regular season. Im not sure how the extended playoff factor into things now though. A longer season could make it be up to 5 games if a team plays upward of 16 games.

Just noticed, almost half the players on the roster come from outside the US. So fun. Lot's of people to help the newcomers adapt! (Where specifically in Ontario is Shadd-Ceres from? "Ontario" is a province). I hope they do some of the language videos like they did a few years ago (including the "Canadian" version).

With the Olympic spirit fresh in my mind, I'd like to see them work in the national anthems of our foreign players once a year maybe.

I always mix those up cuz of hockey.

When I lived in upstate NY and watched college hockey, they always played the US and Canadian National anthems. At least for senior night! That would be three anthems. Plus Canada has the best one on earth.

Sheff and the marketing folks really should consider having one of the home matches be “international night” featuring the countries of our foreign born players!

With the logjam and depth at MB and RS I think Tosia may have to redshirt. I have a feeling she may not get playing time and she may likely end up like Wrobel and Jardine who was stuck behind depth (although Wrobel had injury issues and in hindsight, Jardine should've never been recruited in the first place, it should've been a good DS especially with Sage's injury history even then) and ultimately left. Smrek and Booth have shown to be durable and CC and maybe even Devyn have injury history so the team may bear that in mind to against redshirting Tosia. However I can see both Anna and Devyn playing OPP so Tosia would be decept depth for Carter and CC. So far at MB/RS is. - Smrek (MB/OPP) - Robinson (MB/OPP) - Booth (MB) - CC (MB) - Tosia (MB) Interesting take re Jardine. I'm not sure. I was just looking at stats for Jardine, Demps, and Gregorski after they transferred out of UW. Going only by stats, Jardine seems to have been the most successful of the three, post-transfer, leading Utah in kills and points per set. Demps's best stats are from her championship year at Wisconsin, exceeding her stats at LSU, which I found kind of surprising. It seems like she was overshadowed by at least one other star player at LSU. Gregorski definitely saw more action after her transfer, but didn't emerge to be the star at K-State that I think it's fair to say Jardine is at Utah. Of the three, and again going only by stats, Demps seems to be least successful in her post-transfer years, and yet she was the only one of the three who ever started with the Badgers and was instrumental in the Natty team. To be clear, I admire all of these players. I guess I am just trying to say that there are always intangibles, and also that I am not sure about the take that Jardine never should have been recruited. Also, I am dying to see what happens with Wrobel.

Assuming Orzal at OH, any predictions on a DS for Franklin, or no DS?

Assuming Orzal at OH, any predictions on a DS for Franklin, or no DS? Would be shocked. She’s a really strong passer compared to most OHs (I think it’s underrated how well her and orzol passed when it was just the 2 of them for those rotations last year), her defense improved a lot last year and her backrow attack is a good weapon to have, especially if orzol isn’t quite as efficient up front it’ll be nice to have that option and keep the block honest with the threat of a back row attack. I think orzol and Franklin stay in, then DS either Smrek or robsinon on the right. It’ll be nice to have so many subs to work with compared to past years

It’ll be nice to have so many subs to work with compared to past years This made me think of 2 possible scenarios, for some rotations, if Franklin is front row and there’s a DS who can pass well in for whoever is on the right, it could be a good advantage to have orzol, the DS and the libero pass those rotations and let Franklin just focus on potentially hitting that first ball. So wouldn’t be out of need or because Franklin is a bad passer just because those possible rotations would have fewer weapons already. If Charlie is ever abused on the block up front (I know she’s known as a solid blocker but she’s gonna be asked to block some very tall, very good players that she hasn’t done much) they could do some kind of double sub where Crawford or someone comes in mostly just to block, and Anderson plays in the back and sets for 3 rotations. Don’t think it’s something they ever really did with Hilley or Carlini but could be a good way to utilize Crawford or whoever is not starting of that crews blocking ability.

Also I know this is overthinking but Devyn posted a TikTok and it’s a video of her running a slide, so early indication is she is going back to the middle but I’m sure she’s also taking reps on the right

I just found out from a Tik Tok that John Cook was Wisconsin’s head coach from 1992 to 1998 🤯 I wasn’t born yet to witness it, and I don’t recall ever hearing announcers mention it. Mind blown
