Why is CCC throwing shade at Izzy and MJ? đ§ What did she say? I posted above but will include it again. It is from an article in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel today.
"Sheâs (Charlie Fuehrbringer) super trusting. Sheâs willing to give anyone the ball at any point and time,â Crawford said. âI feel like that is something we really havenât had and itâs awesome to be a part of.â
I think she probably could have left it at She's willing to give anyone the ball at any point in time.

Is CC not allowed to express an opinion after playing in the 6-2 for 2 years? If you're going to go there, you can't ignore the comments of some of the other players:
âThat girl is fearless,â Booth said. âShe will set a B from her knees. She does not care. Itâs going to be super fun this season. Sheâs going to put us middles to work in transition and I love it.â
Franklin added that Fuerbringerâs range will keep both her hitters and opposing defenders on their toes.
âIt really tests our hitters and our system,â Franklin said. âEveryone has to be up every single time. I donât care if Charlieâs on the other side of the court, youâre going to get the ball. So I think itâs just exciting to know how much trust she has in all of us to do that and it keeps us in just such a good system all of the time.â
The coach isn't shy either:
Coach Kelly Sheffield said that Fuerbringer can help the team in multiple facets of the game.
âYou can see her setting and the range that she has and the ability to keep tempo with range,â he said. âHer serve is really a handful to deal with. She defends her area of the court really well. Sheâs not the biggest blocker but her hands are in good spaces and she gets across (the net). She can help us in a lot of ways.
âThe thing is that she loves to be in these types of situations, these types of environments. No fear whatsoever.â
I'll say my quiet part out loud. I wanted to see different and better setting this year.

The other girls didn't provide a direct comparison and make a comparison to past and they focused on what Charlie brings to the team now.

I don't understand. That's just a comment on setting style. Charlie is innately less risk averse than Hammill and Ashburn, just as Hilley was more risk averse than Carlini. Those differences are obvious to anyone watching.
Why would anyone be upset at that?

Those differences are obvious to anyone watching. Why would anyone be upset at that? There is no need to make the additional comment "that's something that CC thinks we've never had" Not be upset? That is absolute shade towards the previous setters we've had during CC's time here. You didn't see the other young ladies make comparisons which would bring scrutiny to those that are no longer on the team.

It's also true that Ashburn and Hammill had to be as similar as possible setting the same players in a 6-2 to preserve connections, and that probably constrained how much they could express their unique personalities as setters. One of the arguments of giving Charlie the reins is that she can express herself and her natural tendencies, so I think it is quite a bit different to what CC has been experiencing. She wasn't here for latter day Hilley.

It was totally awesome seeing Dana with her medal. She's probably my GOAT Badger tbh, though I won't pretend to have thought deeply about it.

I think weâre making a mountain out of a molehill hereâŚshe could have worded it better but imo itâs not a bad thing to express excitement at a change in playstyle. The 6-2 didnât help but we didnât really set middles in transition at all the last two years.

I seemingly remember her being more know for blocking ability and serving

I always hate these analyses into relationships unless it's super obvious like "Izzy and MJ sucked" or some thing like that. Else, how do you know CC didn't text MJ and Izzy already beforehand to say something like "hey didn't mean anything by the comment. Just wanted to gas up our freshman setter"?? In fact, if they're close friends or something, the other two probably wouldn't even mind without the texts because they probably understand?? These girls have relationships you're not privy to, and maybe some comments might come off as shades or wtvr to you, but maybe it's perfectly fine to them. I'm not going to sit here and be the arbiter of that.

I'm not going to sit here and be the arbiter of that. A fifth year senior should have the emotional maturity to convey a sense of excitement of their current situation WITHOUT providing a stark comparison to 'supposed negativity' of attributes that former players or system apparently didn't provide. But not being specific in regards to system or individuals leaves words open for interpretation. Easy fix and I bet she won't make that mistake next time.

I kind of don't care. Izzy and MJ were good in the 6-2, they did decent work, were good leaders, and set fairly consistently for being in a 6-2. They led us to a final four. But whether the reason was lack of practice time, skill, innate belief or whatever, neither of them were nearly as aggressive of a setter as Charlie is, and frankly very few setters in the country will be. I think it's okay to say that - let's not be so super-sensitive that we're not willing to talk about improvements in our team based on a personnel change, and I didn't think the tone was so negative as to warrant an adverse reaction.
