For setter, it’s largely going to depend on 1) who retires and comes back, and 2) the system that the new women’s coach decides to run. The drop off from Poulter, Carlini, and Hancock to the rest of the USA setters is pretty stark, and Pukis hasn’t had enough Pro experience for us to get a sense of how she’s transition to the next level. If Poulter, Carlini, and Hancock all decide to hang up the knee pads before 2028, it’s gonna be a bloodbath for the setter spots in LA. Pukis will not play setter for the USNT, they won't accept the liability in the block created by her size. International-level outsides will terminate on her every time. Poulter only hangs 'em up if she is forced to medically. Otherwise she's the starter and for a backup I think you look for 6'0" or taller setters in the up-and-coming group. Shaffmaster, Fairbanks, Stucky, ... Miner maybe but I think she's actually well below her listed 6'0" so she would have to straight-up outset the other competition. Pro and international competition will differentiate them. Maybe Reilly and Starck as well but I think they're too young for the 2028 cycle. As for system, I just don't think it matters. You've got 6 subs and only single re-entries by the starters, so you're running a 5-1 and then shaping it to your personnel. I think the days where coaches could win matches for their teams over the long run based on their system is over; it's all mini tactical adjustments, figuring out who plays best together and building cohesion. (edit: I see Pukis was listed 5'11" in college and I can't find a pro height for her. I don't care - my eyes say she's 5'9" and doesn't put up a big enough block to bother pro outsides) I am by no means an expert but I was always really impressed with SKT at Texas when they won the natty, granted she was setting Eggleston, Skinner, Oneal etc. and was having Fleck and Halter passing. Has she been good as a pro?

But let's talk about what really matters- Devyn Robinson's cat, Pepito Queso Robinson. It sounds like he has some neurological issues and needed surgery. Prayers for little Pepito! Pepito's instagram is pepito.robinson if you want to follow allow for updates. Now that is some content to get behind! Cats having neurological disorders is actually fairly common (or not uncommon). Sometimes it is from a virus at birth that makes them wobbly.

She's big enough to set internationally and not be a liability there. I bet she is at least in the gym training if she wants to pursue international volleyball.

I know nothing about VB at this level and I'm not above stanning for Hilley, but if someone is ahead of her for setter I hope it is that Pukis from last year. She was the best setter I watched last year by a country mile. For setter, it’s largely going to depend on 1) who retires and comes back, and 2) the system that the new women’s coach decides to run. Fun meta facts about Wisconsin Badger threads on this spookiest of days.
As I post this the thread is on page 420.
No other Badger season thread made it past 401*, and that was the 2023 thread. In that thread we passed October 31st on page 289.
In the 2022 thread we got to 327 pages and hit October 31 on page 265.
The 2021 thread was "only" 119 pages and passed October 31 on page 91. It was also a little weird because Rainbow set up 2 threads, one for 2020-2021 (understandably) and one for just Fall 2021. This number is for fall 2021.
I figure the numbers before then were both pre-pandemic and pre-Championship and are unlikely to be interesting comparitively so I didn't look that far back.
So anyway, happy 420 on October 31 folks!

And Pepito is an orange. If you know anything about orange cats, you know that they are just... special. Since for some reason players other than former Badgers have temporarily infiltrated this thread...there is a GoFundMe for Pepito as well. And judging by Instagram Pepito seems perhaps more like the team cat that happens to live with Dev! It's an emotional support cat.

EMP and SKT have been invited to the USA gym/played on C teams. Ashley Evans has played with the A team, but her time is likely running out. Signs point to Miner and Fairbanks as the current college setters most likely to get the invite, partly because Starck and Reilly are so young. Badger related edit: Hilley is unlikely to continue to play with the national team as more setters who choose to play in higher level leagues enter the equation.

Poor burly constant cynic ! Moments should be enjoyed: these women who met a female VP and possible future Pres. it wasn’t that long ago NCAA didn't sponsor sports for women! Just stating a fact. I'm surprised at the number of people unsettled by presenting facts. If this were the opportunity you say it is wouldn't Charlie and Frank be there. As pepperjack said in a different message some need to settle a bit. We are already getting borderline comments that could send this thread way off kilter like 'all my favorites are harris girls'
We dont need overtly political discussion in the main thread and you're just playing with fire by normalizing such posts.
