Sorry but Smrek will never be a 6ro player. Love the optimism tho Smrek's athletic difficulties will make her tough to place in the pros. There are a lot of good 6ro opposites whose defense is sus, but their back row attack is devastating. I'm not sure I see Smrek having a devastating back row attack, and her defense is definitely a problem; I can't see Sheffield not DS'ing for her (possibly after serving) unless they have a severe shortage of smalls. Even putting Devyn or CC in for her in the back row would be preferable. I could see Smrek being an opposite in the pros but it might take some creative subbing - maybe two DS's (one for the M2 and one for Smrek) then using the libero to cover for the no re-entry rule. And at the end of the set you still might have an issue. On the other hand, she may learn to play back row sufficiently to not be an issue. We don't know her defensive and back attacking abilities are because of she hasn't had much time to play there. The only way we'll know is if the coaches play her as a 6ro OPP on a consistent basis every game, that's when we'll find out if her backrow attack makes up for her dodgy defence or if her back row defence is solid enough that a DS is not needed for her (helps save on rotations in longer sets). Obviously she'd be one of the main servers since her serving looks hard to defend in practice and in game.

I know the TayLa conversation is played out, but it’s related to Wrobel. Toward the end of the season, a poster claimed that an OH transfer prospect was back-channeling her interest and would be a Badger; I’m assuming this was Landfair after both Londot and Terry confirmed their returns. I would guess this is when Wrobel knew that she’d be searching for an easier path to playing time. Given Orzol’s growth as L and her backcourt leadership, she has been and will be the leading L candidate, leaving Wrobel and Shadd-Ceres. Even though Sheff says Orzol would be before Wrobel, it’s clear the staff was prioritizing the portal or expected Landfair to commit. OR, the staff is hoping GG, Saige, Lola, or Maile show enough promise that Orzol moves back to OH2. I’m curious to know what happened. Is it really Nebraska’s leg up in NIL? Was it UW’s grad program? Was JC like “The fook if she ends up at Wisconsin?” It seemed like a pretty big shoe-in that Taylor was gonna commit. To me, it’s actually kind of funny that TayLa snubbed us again, but wishing her the best as a Husker. ETA: I fully trust this staff. Will be exciting to see what happens between now and June. My honest feeling is that Sheffield told her playing time was not gauranteed and she wanted to play 6 ro and have some gaurantees to this. So, she did not fit the Wisconsin mantra of team first.

“Ella is a great player, a great teammate and she was all the way in,” Sheffield said. Yet, now she will be in the other side if the net. What went wrong? Can she help OSU, but not Wisky? From watching Ella in some of her senior high school matches and her brief appearances for the Badgers, including spring matches, it was injuries. It also was a relatively high unforced error rate that I saw. She can be terminal and has a really strong arm, but she missed a lot of shots out or right into blocks. That meant that she was not one of the top 2 OH in a very strong gym. Give her a chance to work on her game, especially errors, and she can develop into a very good hitter. I don't think she can become NPOY level, though.

Happy New Year Badgers! Let's all take a moment to be thankful for our program, its leadership, and the athletes we get to watch perform incredible things while making it look easy. So thankful to be a Badger fan... let's go 2024! And to the New Year, where we will get to watch Badger alumni compete in the first ever pro volleyball league in the USA, watch Badger alumni compete in an Olympic games, and another great team compete for the Big Ten and National Championships.

Any coach who would guarantee a player who basically has been injured for 2 years a 6ro place on the team isn't being honest with the player. So, if that's what she wanted, and why she left (we're speculating) then she didn't belong at Wisconsin anyway. And if she was given that guarantee by Oldenburg, that's either a red flag for the player, or a coach really sticking their neck out.

Good lord, you guys are incredibly cruel. Wanting to transfer and play doesn't mean she wasn't a team player. No need to overthink it. She may have had a wonderful experience here. It's like this: you are in job A, you love all your colleagues, but you aren't getting the fulfillment you want and you think you can do more So you go to a new job. You guys would make some terrible bosses. To me this is a much different scenario than someone with PT who then elects to transfer. I highly doubt she was a " prima Donna. "

I think several recent posters may have confused TL comments to be about Wrobel and Wrobel comments to be about TL.

She was so "all the way in" she left...

'24 uncommitted Kennedy Osunsanmi, 6-3 OH from California, getting a perfect set from Fuerbringer after a great pass from Schumacher in tomorrow's UA game. And maybe decides she'd like to keep doing that at Wisconsin?

1. I thought Kennedy Osunsamni was committed to UCLA. (But I agree she’d look great in Cardinal and White.)
2. The merger of the most of the PAC-10 into the B1G will have a significant long-term impact on recruiting. You already see some player who probably would have gone to the B1G go to UCLA, USC, etc.

The rosters for the game tomorrow show her as uncommitted.
