Speaking of setters, my eldest daughter is currently getting some VB skills lessons, and one of the 4 coaches is Morgan Van Wie. I guess that’s par for the course amongst top players, being involved in coaching lessons for younger kids?

'24 uncommitted OH's... From UA Next game, Kennedy Osunsanmi and Kiylah Presley were 2 OH's who were uncommitted. Anybody know about either one? Osunsanmi recently decommitted from UCLA. Thought maybe she'd forge a chemistry with Charlie at UA game but that didn't seem to happen. Presley didn't seem to play much.

There is 'value' to using a single setter in terms of consistency and in the number of subs NOT used. There is 'value' in getting all four of our middles/opposites onto the court in terms of front row blocking and attacking. Which adds more 'value'? I don't know. But I have faith that Sheffield and coaches will make the call they thinks adds the most net value. I'll "let" them make the call. :-) There may also be “value” in running a 5-1 in a portal world where a #1 recruit and setter might very well want to be on the court all the time.

I suspect that Carly was recruited to be the veteran backup to Charlie - like others have said. But I do have to say, loving the discussion about using her in a 6-2. To go from the #185 RPI team to the #6 RPI team must be a dream come true for her. The whole situation reminds me a lot of Kennedy Muff coming to Florida. It would be cool to get some court time, but I truly doubt she is coming in *expecting* significant time

My guess (as the roster stands right now) is a situational double sub. End of sets to shore up blocking and have three front row options. It lets the platoon we have with middle/opposites get meaningful playtime and keeps the key personnel engaged. I didn't see Fuerbringer in the UAAA game, but I did watch her set in the WCs; she looks like the real deal. If Anderson can push her to be better, awesome. If Anderson has the skill and work ethic to get the start, then holy crap did we land an amazing, darkhorse transfer.
In any case, go Badgers!

I was explaining that by getting Carly, it means that we're near certain to run the 6-2 again. What we also need in addition to an experienced backup setter is a Libero NOT an OH is what I'm trying to explain afterwards. Oh I get it and you're completely wrong, in my opinion. Setters are apples and oranges. Charlie is the best setter to graduate in a more than a few years. She's run an offense and helped a team win a world championship. While I'm sure the setter from Montana is great, she's not Charlie. It's not close. Charlie will run a 5-1 because she is just that good and you do not want a player like that off the court. Copy this post and use it to throw in my face if I'm wrong. I'm pretty certain I'm not. I agree, I prefer we run a 5-1 with Charlie too since she's a generational talent similarly to Carlini and Hilley.

Yes, tell her to have a ball wth her anytime she has down time... setting on the walls, in bed, on the floor watching tv... all those little touches help. The best setter camp is not too far (Aurora, IL) from WI, that camp is for serious setters, 10 days skills, reps, skills, reps, lol -- I remember alot of Milwaukee Sting kids being in the camps @spvb. That's also the home on many former all-american setters, including Lauren Carlini. I reccomend this camp for the serious setter that wants to step up their game. greatlakescenter.com/club/camps

Can't seem to find any info. I also can't find any stats for the match, thought I hear them quoted.

Biggest thing I noticed was that she was unafraid to reverse the flow and set the slide out to the pin with good location. Occasionally set a little high, but I'm not overly bothered by that. I'd rather a little high and a continuation play than a set that dies and the only shot is into the block. She'll have to figure out new hitter windows...she won't have set heights and verticals like Booth and Smrek before. I'm optimistic.

From a setter, I'd rather see 5'9" with really good setting, ability to set a block, and the discipline to go low and over rather than 6' setter that can't better the ball and just reaches high on the block. The two hypotheticals aren't mutually exclusive and parts of that can be trained, but that's where I'm coming from. Eg.: I loved Loberg from the moment she stepped on the court from an offensive perspective, but even standing at 6'3", her first year blocking was ROUGH.

Very interesting article about Carly written by The University of Montana Sports Information Department when she was a sophomore: gogriz.com/news/2022/5/23/volleyball-anderson-finally-gets-her-shot-learns-from-time-at-canadian-national-training-centre This caught my attention: But she also wants to take her game to another level, someday playing professionally overseas and representing her native country of Canada.
Anderson got her first taste of that earlier this month at the Richmond Olympic Oval, Volleyball Canada's national training center. She was one of approximately three dozen Canadian volleyball players selected to the Volleyball Canada NextGen training program.
"Honestly, I was really surprised, but super excited," Anderson said about being selected to the NextGen tryout. "It was all pretty surreal."
Listed on its website, 'Volleyball Canada's NextGen Program is an important part of our Women's Senior National Team and is viewed as the entry point for anyone aspiring to play for Canada. The aim of this program is to create a sustainable podium pathway for indoor women's volleyball by developing world-class athletes who contribute to the performance of the Women's National Team and help propel Canada beyond the current successes, to Olympic qualifications and podium performances.'I'm guessing Sheff must have received some favorable feedback from his Canadian coaching connections that helped to seal the deal.
