Who was the Husker player who originated "the dungeon" label? Was it Krause? Madi Kubik? Batenhorst? I believe Madi Kubik.

I think she’d be great here. She, Smrek and Franklin could just dominate other teams out of system. Worst case scenario you have a really solid backup who’s played in multiple national championship games on the left. But I think she could excel here. She’s a career .180 hitter…we don’t need OOS scoring when we already have Smrek and Franklin to toss the ball up to, that’s one more outlet than most teams usually have. What we need is passing to make things easier for our freshman setter and for us to feed our many AA weapons, and Batenhorst isn’t exactly a stellar passer. I’m confused on exactly what does Wisconsin have that Nebraska doesn’t that would make her “excel” here when she has struggled for 3 years as a starter at Nebraska, outside of that one fluke match against Texas 3 years ago, Cheese curds, bratwurst, Spotted Cow, Lake Mendota, Bucky, Kelly Sheffield, Sarah Franklin, Badger fans etc., etc. Most important, The Badgers remain as the team that can be counted on to take it to Nebraska on a regular basis.

On the passing front, I’d assume whoever we bring in, if we do, at OH is gonna get Ds’d for 3 rotations if Franklin keeps passing like she did this season. Doing a quick look over, Batenhorst and Julia are pretty similar statistically (Julia has a slightly higher hitting percentage, Batenhorst had just the slightest edge in blocks per set). We just thrived on out-of-system chaos plays this year and I can see her excelling in that style of play.

We just thrived on out-of-system chaos plays this year and I can see her excelling in that style of play. In a 5-1, when Batenhorst is front row, we would only have 2 front-row options on 2 rotations. That means on any even meh pass might reduce us to a single option (Batenhorst), and I'm sorry, Batenhorst's hits tend to find the center of the opponent's blocks to be roofed straight back down. Plus, do we really want to put that much stress on Sarah again in passing? She was exhausted for those last two sets against Texas for a reason. Also yes, she's decent at OOS plays. But she gives those points back in IN-SYSTEM plays (I think she hits .250 or something this year in-system, which is below the majority of pins on other top teams) that she can't terminate at a rate nearly as high as others would (source: /photo/1). I just don't understand the clammering for a hitter who hit .189 last year. I saw less excitement on here for Taylor Landfair than this, which is crazy lol.

Batenhosrt didn't specifically mention 'beach' in her post, but Husker beat writer Lincoln Arneal does say she's looking to play beach as well as indoor.
So the whole 'question' is likely moot, anyway.

We're an injury away from starting a freshman on the left. Batenhorst would add depth. A depth pickup doesn't mean anyone is expecting an all-american. Now I assume Batenhorst wants to go somewhere to start, but who knows. And serious question for my info, who are the great passing 6-Ro outsides who are available, or expect to be available in the May window?

Sheff and coach Gary on their way to Lincoln as we speak to pick up Batenhorst.

Moreover there is the possibility she can beat out Orzol for starting OH2. I think the reason Franklin got tired in the Texas match is Texas got the better of GG on serve-receive, while we couldn’t substitute much because of running the 6-2 and Damrow was injured, so Sheffield’s least worse option was Franklin doing extra serve-receive. Since in 2024 we’ll have a 5-1, better DS depth, and even possibly a serve-receive second libero, Franklin doing extra serve-receive at the risk of exhaustion will be way down the list of options. So an offensive minded transfer OH shouldn’t work against Franklin.

So the whole 'question' is likely moot, anyway. I just read the article and saw that point. If beach is a must-have, she could end-up in a place like USC or UCLA with a top beach team (though I have no idea how good a beach player she is). But neither of those places has a realistic shot at the indoor title. Actually I think if that (which also comes with high publicity) and playing time are more important to her, Wisconsin is the best place for her.

What would be the chances of Krause transferring out too? I’m guessing Krause will stay at Nebraska and take her chances at beating-out Landfair at OH2. Worst case for her barring injury would be first pin hitter off the bench, at either OH or RS, so it’s likely she’ll get good playing time even if Landfair wins OH2.

Who was the Husker player who originated "the dungeon" label? Was it Krause? Madi Kubik? Batenhorst? Madi Kubik I loved watching Kubik interviews - she had a tendency to be overly candid at times. It would get awkwardly hilarious. The "dungeon" quote where she said she didn't like playing in the Fieldhouse was definitely one of those moments.

Their best pin is the incoming Freshman Pierce. She's the real deal. Plays alot like the a mixture of both the frosh hitters at Pitt (Babcock and Stafford) Come summer, she pushes out and becomes the 01 -- Cook will not gamble and piss off Miss Highness Murray (he's afraid she will transfer to TX) --- leaves Landfair and Krause... Krause may have to box with Beason for RS instead... Taylor may be the odd-woman out. Pierce is better than Murray already -- RUN TELL THAT!

There has only been one page of talk, and it has been pretty muted. Landfair generated way more excitement among a fair fraction of badger fans. Batenhorst has some massive matches, and some pretty terrible ones. Very possible Orzol beats her out because Julia can hit a a slightly higher percentage, she can pass a bit better, and she is key to the teams energy. That said Batenhorst hits pretty well out of system whereas Orzol struggles OOS. In a 5-1 with more DSs available maybe a passing OH makes less of a difference. She would be a good depth. But if she wants beach, there is no point talking about it.
