I just rewatched this match last night. If you zero in your focus on Reilly there is lots to discuss for cook and coaching staff. Her blocking, defense and ability to read defense and get a feel for the game is pretty darn good. But... location and tempo has become quite messy for most of our hitters. Her connection with jackson has downgraded. She is really limiting landfair as a weapon. And she puts beason in lots of unwinnable situations. If nebraska wants a national title match attempt THIS MUST BE FIGURED OUT. When they get pushed, this will become the difference maker in the win or loss. I would grade Reilly at a "C" these past 8 matches on location. If I'm the Nebraska staff.. I'm spending EVERY PRACTICE cleaning this up. I counted 19 misattempts this match that could/should have resulted in kills/points. That's too many for a national title contending team. A good way to put this..... Rodriguez shouldnt be leading landfair on kill assists... that needs to be Reillys job. ^ : : : : THIS!! They got caught 😳. The digressing was too noticeable these past few weeks. Beason and Reilly need to do better. Landfair needs to want the ball. These weaknesses become so devastating in big matches. I don't see the husker staff addressing any of it. We have work to do.

I don’t even celebrate thanksgiving but since it’s holidays szn I’m gonna keep it cute and nice for everyone!
First off, Penn State just played better and they played like they wanted it more. We got absolutely outplayed in the red zone when we have been great at it all year. Though I applaud Bergen’s all around game improvement this year, her setting has definitely regressed this year. Not just locations and tempo but setting decisions. Andi is one of the best middles in the country (dare I say she’s the best) and while using her as a decoy helps out everyone, it gets tiring when she’s getting underused especially tonight when she was very effective. What’s more bothering was the fact that she forced more sets to Rebekah than Andi. Is she Rebekah Akinradewo? Harper definitely had her struggles especially passing all throughout the match and probably was the reason why we lost the 1st but she stepped it up offensively.
Now for Merritt, I’m sorry but she was completely a non-factor tonight. I know she brings so much more than that with her leadership in the court but this was her worst match of the year. It would’ve been nice had Cook gave her a little breather and put Linda in. And he did. But not for her, for Taylor instead. I know the stats for Taylor looked really bad but she was 💯 getting the worst sets out of everyone and she wasn’t even one of our biggest problems. So I was baffled when she got benched in the 4th. Now we all know how Linda performed during the end of that match.
Overall, I have to say that was quite a very disappointing showing when an outright B1G title is on the line. Just seemed like no one wanted it. The only good thing I can say coming out of this match is that hopefully this will fire em up in the tourney.

Bergen’s location has been in and out all season, but every game we’ve struggled, that’s been our biggest issue. I’ve seen it since the Michigan game, and people were commenting on it earlier. The fact that this is our biggest issue this far into the season does not bode well for me - not that I’m calling the season now, but this should have been ironed out. We’ve been able to will ourselves into getting the points anyway when it’s been at its worst, but against teams like this? Needs a fix asap.

Oh I forgot to say. Cook was straight up out of his mind for benching Taylor. That’s all!

Oh I forgot to say. Cook was straight up out of his mind for benching Taylor. That’s all! Couple of points? Sure. But clearly she was struggling even worse and I kept waiting for Landfair to come back in and never did…

One of the most mind-boggling issues (amongst others lmao) is why on the world did they change the way bergen sets merritt? So many high balls now, barely any with tempo. Merritt is always being set way out to the pin whereas last year they at least moved her inside and around a bit more. She’s honestly always up against a double block now. The offense, while statistically better than last year, has become even far more simple than before.
While this is just our second loss/first conference loss and we’ve done a lot of good things and won big matches this year, it was clear to see that our offense would let us down in a tight match. Very good transition opportunities every single point in the red zone of the 4th set and capitalized on none.

But clearly she was struggling even worse and I kept waiting for Landfair to come back in and never did… Landfair had some really tough sets she had to work on. She also had quite a few bombs where PSU just straight up dug them. Beason wasn’t even hitting the same bombs like Landfair did, she was just straight up hitting them wide or she got stuffed. And who did Cook kept playing?
