This UNC team looked very good this weekend. I’m not sure what happened at South Carolina, but I am hopeful that the ship is being righted by this staff and players. They actually look like they enjoy each other and enjoy playing, something that was missing for quite some time. Just take it one game at a time.

I watched the South Carolina game and South Carolina basically served us out of the gym… and so many of balls just fell in the campfire. I am very happy, however, to say that the next few weekends that tip coverage got ridiculously better. Which tells me the coaches are really evaluating and implementing those things in practice. I know that seems silly to say, but not so much in years past. I’m even seeing adjustments mid matches now, which is great.
I do think a big contributor right now is having Safi as the O2 and Emani on the right. Emani’s serve receive is very weak. Safi has a lot of room to grow there but she is stronger there than Emani.

This was a very good weekend to help us RPI wise. There is no doubt to me that both Michigan and MSU are improved as well and will probably pick up some good B1G wins to help us.
There are two things to me that stands out this season vs. the last few.
1. Our offense is more diverse. Even if our LS are putting up big numbers, we are using the middle and RS enough to keep the defense guessing. Thorpe and Foster will get there....but the diverse offense has tremendously helped hitting efficiency.
2. Our defense is so much better. We are out-digging opponents and getting way more transition opportunities. Maddy May looks way better. She made a dig at 10-10 in the 5th set against Michigan that put us up 11-10. I dont think we win that match without her insanse dig on thier middle. In the MSU game, I remember her diving behind Mabrey who missed the ball in the 4th set, 2 point game, which then led to a transition kill and put us up against MSU by 3. We are actually going on runs and not allowing teams to get as many first ball kills.
Safi has been a revelation and I think our middles are getting more comfortable. If we can continue growing and take this on the road we can finish in the top 3rd of the ACC.

That was rough. We have no strategy and fundamentals are weak. My biggest issue is that we have no will. Alas

Take set 1 over the 12-0 Cuse, 25-14. Didn’t do much wrong in that set.

Sweep! Finish with a 25-22 win in set 3. We played really badly in the last set… we had double digit errors and Syracuse only had 5 kills. But still got the sweep!

We have looked very sloppy today and BC is a pesky team. Lots of frustration on our end. We are fortunate to be up 2-1.
The coaches have made adjustments mid-match, which is good, but two glaring issues we haven’t adjusted to is both of our setters are setting way too flat and low today. Our hitters are having more success off of bump sets than the actual sets - or at least it feels that way. And every time their OH swings out of the backrow she’s always sending it to our setter in the back row, but our block on that play and defense is not adjusting to know that. (Edit: she just did the opposite, so clearly I should shut up.)
Hope we can really clean things up and get out of here in 4.

Survive a sloppy/sleepy Sunday match to win 3-1 and move to 10-1; 2-0 ACC on the season.

Yeah...I was not a fan of the 3rd set against Syracuse nor most of the match yesterday....I think we did not hold our foot on the gas enough....As ACC play gets tougher we cannot let up on the gas.
I actually think our pssing is good for the most part. the setting is ehhh. Glad to see us using our middles more. we really need our RS to become less error-prone. Part of that is due to the setting rhythm or lack there of.
I for one was not expecting us to be 10-1 AND #31 in Massey ratings. I will take it and hope that we continue to grow and be a tea that peaks when we get to thee tougher teams.
Duke on Wednesday night and Friday will def be a new vibe. Need to win both of those (and certainly can) if we play our brand of ball.

Game day at DUKE!
Really hoping we play much cleaner and with more energy tonight. The last set against Syracuse and most of Sunday agianst BC we looked out of sorts.
While Duke is not playing well, this is not a match for UNC to overlook or take lightly. Key will be to avoid the Godd/Kadel Block and to slow Keefe/Kadel down.

Won the first set 25-16. Looked good. I want this team every set. Let’s see if they can keep it at that level for the rest of the match.

Also, happy to see Bohlinger is dressed out again. Hopefully she’ll get some PT and ease back in.
