Bower as the libero continues to be one of the most bizarre suggestions I've seen. She was not the problem. Do we even know if she can pass? I agree that Hiapo should have been offered a scholarship, since she's better than Allen and way less likely to transfer, but that mistake was made more than 2-3 years ago. This is another deflection of yours bbg! The Allen vs Hiapo decision wasn't an either or. It should have been both. Allen was upfront about being more comfortable as a DS. It was well known and she had convo's with BYU coaches prior to signing. BYU has missed way more than Hiapo. They sign too many OH's and not enough DS/L's to make the program better. That is a head coach issue. Allen wouldn't have transferred if Olmstead had recruited Hiapo or any other decent L. Remember Heather made Allen play L for a season .... her last one in Provo. The bottom line is horrible recruiting of passers for 8 years for a top 15 program. No way around it despite you trying to find a path to cover for them. More of Marn's non sense. Opinion * Scholarship availability might have been an issue with Hiapo not coming to BYU as an undergrad. So glad she was able to come last year! She is amazing! Facts * Hiapo was offered a 4 yr scholarship at UofA which is very rare for a Lib. * Allen transferred because she wanted to be closer to home & and get some health issues under control. * Top programs typically have 3-4 Libs in their team-- including BYU. 1. Texas - 4 ct . 2. Nebraska - 3 ct. 3. Wisconsin - 4 ct. 4. Pitt - 3 ct. 5. Stanford - 4 ct. 6. Louisville - 6 ct. 7. Oregon - 3 ct. 8. Arkansas - 3 ct. 9. Tennesse - 5 ct. 10. Kentucky - 2 ct. Disclaimer- the above #s are shown on the rosters as of today. BYU has currently 3 and will have 4 once Uluave arrives in the summer. Not sure what your deal is about BYU not signing enough Lib/DSs.

You are so bad at this that it's embarrassing. Allen played libero both seasons she was in Provo. What are you even talking about? The fact is that you clearly have some kind of personal issue with Olmstead, and literally anything you say about her should not be taken seriously. Also, what am I deflecting? I agreed with azvb that Hiapo should have been offered a scholarship instead of Allen because she's a better player. I never said that they couldn't recruit Allen as a DS also. I'm not sure Allen would have been interested because I think she came to BYU so that she could play libero. But unlike you, I will say when I'm speculating or not sure of something instead of just making something up with zero evidence. You have no idea what you're talking about.

I'd also note that Bower was good enough to get drafted and is still on Atlanta's roster, albeit as a practice player. Anyway, I appreciate your efforts to debunk marn and their nonsense in this and your other posts. Unfortunately, there is a lot to debunk.

movb sorry, I wasn’t clear! I meant why didn’t BYU have 3 ASSISTANT coaches. I believe it was 2 years ago the NCAA approved paying a third assistant. marnvbc2 I like bbg95. I’ve got no beef with him/her. The only beef I have with you is your lack of paragraph usage 😉. I’ve mellowed-life is too short to get worked up about anything on VolleyTalk.

Has this ever been shared? I saw it the other night after the men’s game on BYUTV. Classy, humble, fair, without guile are words that describe Elaine. I’m afraid she wont be with us much longer. What a reunion it will be at her funeral!

Because the Carlson guy has bragged about getting her on BYU's radar and he has also told lots people he did it. Just ask him. He is full of ego at club tourneys and talks a lot. I mean obviously he thought Miller was better than Johnson right ?? He put Miller on his top team!! It isn't a hard stretch to connect the dots with what he tells people and what his actions showed. I have zero first hand knowledge of this but I heard from multiple people that he didn't like the dad of Johnson and that is why he put her on the second team. So either that is true or Carlson really thought Miller was better because he put her on his own top team. Either scenario is bad for Carlson and V. So, you are just making things up. Got it. I just made a quick call to a V coach who gave me a little more insight into the political leanings of what went on. Please explain how the Johnson girl was placed on the second team at V and Miller was placed on Carlson's top team without Carlson believing Miller was better? You can argue about what was said/not said but the actions speak louder than words. Miller was thought to be the best DS by V and they communicated that to BYU. Are you saying that BYU took Miller without discussing her with V? Another fact I learned this am is that Miller started in the semi-finals of the national open division ahead of the girl who went to USU and Johnson who was on the second V team. So the louder than words "action" argument is that Carlson thought she was the best DS/L at V to put her on his top team. How is that for making things up with facts? She gave me some other really interesting info on the recruiting process and team placement for V and BYU communications. That might be a story for another day. This is all second hand info, but there seems to be a lot of ancillary evidence that points to the truth. With all that said, the Johson girl might not be the answer at BYU so this discussion could be a waste of time. Time will tell ...

AZVB- well you just took over enemy #1 on the bbg95 (and few others list)! Thank you for taking my place! Much appreciated. These bullet points of yours are exactly what I have used more words to say (than you did) over the years. I made the mistake of making these points while the season was going or before certain seasons started and had the wrath of bbg95 on me. Everything you said above is true. But when you point them out (for example Prior should be a MB) and Little and Stowell should be playing OH2 instead of Eden (even saying Eden will not be elite or even average in her college career before she ever set foot on campus) ..... and heaven forbid that you suggest that W Bower wasn't the best setter for the program over Meyer (not even close) then you start the peanut gallery saying you work in the BYU vb office, or your kid got shafted by Heather, or you just have an ax to grind with the Bowers, or you are the dad of a new transfer to BYU etc. It is crazy what they come up with to deflect from the issues that hamper the BYU program. There is more to Jonny leaving than meets the eye. Maybe one to many things were said and ignored about talent evaluation and social politics involving people in the program. It doesn't really matter to me, but the on court decisions are perplexing and the first sign that I saw that Heather is susceptible to personal likes and dislikes influencing her coaching decisions was ..... before I say this .... I am not the mom or dad of the Lewis girl .... but Lewis should have played at OH and allowed to play instead of inserting Madi Rob into the final 4. It could and probably would have lead to a different result. For a variety of reasons Heather is not able to put certain players on the floor .... even when they should be. That one was a total political decision! Damuni is the latest victim of Heather knowing that she has a potential problem with the Bower family so she absolutely wastes Damuni's eligibility. All true/accurate points but "we need to shoot the messenger" before she gets us the message ....... AZVB *Pryor in the middle, Mia OPP. - > BYU needs Pryor's huge block as an OPP. Mia has quicker lateral movement than Pryor and is a better offensive threat as a middle. *Stowell and Claire in the battle for OH2. Not Eden. - > No doubt that a healthy Claire will be the OH2. *A 3rd coach. She made wonders out of bad passing, played great defense, and was an offensive threat at the net. Penina?? Jonny knows why he left and so does the coaching staff. I am laughing now because BYU/Heather inserted Damuni into serve in a MEANINGLESS match and cost her a redshirt year. Opinion: Heather did that on purpose. Because Damuni had a nagging injury (not for 6 months) that is the best reason to red shirt the girl. You make no sense. Damuni warmed up with the team at almost all matches this year. If "risks need mitigation" then why put her in any match or allow her to warm up with the team? Heather took away her year of eligibility for the sole reason to give A Bower a better situation. Whitney Bower was not in the top 120 setters in the country in assists in 2023 for a reason. I didn't take the time to look it up but she might have been in lower than 120! She had poor ball placement and sometimes poor decision making. Whitney played with a bunch of All American's over her 5 year career and she couldn't get the team past the Sweet 16. She dumped to much and took away from the hitters because her ball location was average and sometimes poor. Her first thought (allowed by Heather) was "can I dump this ball" which kept her from being a top level setter. Look where she is now. She is a far better dumper than Tori Dilfer (and probably a better athlete) but the professional coach in Atlanta won't start Bower because she doesn't place the ball well. She hasn't played a rotation yet this season. Whitney is now gone, which actually might help the program and the coach going forward.

This is another deflection of yours bbg! The Allen vs Hiapo decision wasn't an either or. It should have been both. Allen was upfront about being more comfortable as a DS. But unlike you, I will say when I'm speculating or not sure of something instead of just making something up with zero evidence. You have no idea what you're talking about. bbg - you are right on two things. You are right, that it is an embarrassment that BYU can't shore up their passing. But it is not an embarrassment that I pointed it out. You are also correct that Madi played L both years she was at BYU. Sorry about that, I try to be accurate and I just remembered her soph year. However, it isn't important in this discussion. I can tell you for sure Madi played DS at Club and she was also promised by Heather that Grace Wee, Morgan Bower and/or Callie Whitney were already on the roster and one of them would be the L in Madi's freshman year. As it turns out, NONE of those girls were good enough to be the L OR even a DS on the BYU roster, ever! Wee stayed for 1 more year and Bower stayed for 3 more years. How do you justify that? Any vb knowledgeable fan or coach would start to have questions with Morgan Bower taking up a roster spot for 4 years. It started the whisperings of favoritism. How can you argue it shouldn't have? More big misses in the recruiting dept followed. I have no personal issue with Olmstead. Pointing out deficiency's in the program (which are years long) isn't a personal issue. She is in charge of the program and gets all the deserving accolades and the blame when things don't go well. That is they way it is everywhere, not just BYU. The Bower issue is unusual. You have to admit it. 4 girls from one family (with 3 more to go) is unusual. There is no way around it. Only 1 of those girls has made a positive impact on the program and I believe that the lure of other "Bower" recruits swayed Heather to allow Whitney to play instead of Zayna Meyer. My opinion! Particularly when you look at Morgan, Eden's continued parlay's onto the floor ahead of other more talented hitters, a wasted red shirt on Damuni and A Bower being given a scholly. I didn't read where AZVB said that Hiapo should be offered a scholly instead of Madi. I didn't say that either. What I did say is that both of them should have been offered and played together. The 3 girls I listed above should never have been offered a spot at BYU (and many other DS/L's offered by Heather as well). Hiapo/Allen should have been a package deal and easily could have been. You are not getting that fact or you are purposely ignoring it. I am not speculating about the long list of misses in the BYU recruiting dept regarding back row players/passers. I am laying out facts. In addition to carrying too many pin hitters (many of whom can't play at even an average D-1 level), I am advocating that BYU carry 5-7 pins and 5 - 7 passers until they can hit on 3 who are legit passers. Neb, Wisc, Tex, Louisville and the Pitt's of the world get their pick of the best girls in the country and they have generally shown that they can identify legit passers. With BYU's weaknesses and strengths (MB recruiting and some OH's) they have to realize that they need more options in the passing dept? That is my opinion and I know you disagree with me..... hence the reported # of back row girls on the rosters you posted on other top rosters. Since I don't believe it is debatable that BYU's back row passers aren't as good as the teams you mentioned above these comments, BYU has to play the numbers game (with more recruits on the back row) to get back in the game.

So either that is true or Carlson really thought Miller was better because he put her on his own top team. Either scenario is bad for Carlson and V. More of Marn's "non-sense". Since it seems you have a problem separating truth from error, I'll make it easier for you by separating the facts from my opinions. Opinions: * The Carlson guy's bragging rights are totally justified. (See my first two facts below.) * My guess is you're making up stories about the V owners not liking Johnson's father to justify Johnson not being placed on a top team and seen as second-tier libero. * The majority of the local vball community believes Johnson is at BYU as a practice player because Uluave is not coming until the summer. *My sources who have watched Johnson before tell me she's slow, is not a back row leader, and can only pass easy balls. For the program's sake, I hope Heather's coaching can raise her game. Facts * Its very rare for 3 girls from the same club team to be recruited in the same year by the same school (BYU) and his great coaching had a lot to do with it. * Club V leads the nation in college commits. * For a period of 5+ years, every coach at Club V-- not just the owners-- placed Johnson on the second team. Utah signed Johnson only after Miller declined their offer. * Johnson was the S/R target of the very talented Club V 2022 you like to gossip about. * She's plagued by injury. Perhaps that explains her lack of speed. Dear Club V movb coach: Carlson is not a great coach! Repeat that to yourself 20 times a day. He supervises every selection of players from U13 and up. From a fellow V coach of yours - "Reed coaches only the top teams in 16-18's. He owns the club and won't coach any team except the 1 teams unless he lets his brother have a turn. He funnels all the great athletes to his team and only demotes girls based on his personal like or dislike of the politics of the situation. He offers players from other clubs to play for free if he can't get them to come try out at V. Harvey girls? He didn't make them, he recruited them. They made him! The vast majority of the players can't stand him. That includes stars out of the BYU program." That was all a quote. Me- If he is such a good coach why doesn't he make the jump to college or pro? Big downside though. But I would be entertained if he took a college job because you would quickly see his lack of ability to coach top athletes. His players would hit the transfer portal faster than he could sign them. He is oftentimes the reason the top V teams don't do as well as they should. I have witnessed it. He constantly (as in a rotation) shifts back and forth between OH's, L's, setters and DS's every other set. It is the strangest philosophy, one that is unmatched in any top 20 club in the country. Heck it is unparalleled in any vb program in the country. He is probably a genius. Although, I will admit that some other V coaches now do the same thing because of his influence. Carlson won state championships at a high school (Peak) in Utah and was asked to not return. He left and made comments to people that the school would cease winning championships without him. I was told that the HS won the last 3 championships .... no Carlson no problem! They were probably just lucky! We will see how your local vb experts (V coaches) opinions pan out this year. If the Johnson girl ends up getting court time then we can assume V coaches didn't know what they were doing and that Heather's coaching was the reason for her improvement? After all Olmstead is a better coach and her coaching is the reason that the Johnson girl could do well? If that happens maybe the Miller girl will also blossom since she was the far better player to begin with and Johnson is too slow and has always been on the #2 team in the vaunted talent evaluation process at V! I am starting to see irony in your statements. I am not sticking up for Johnson. I don't know if she is damaged goods or not. But, her passing was rated higher this past season (while she was slow and damaged) than Miller (who wasn't slow and damaged) and was at BYU. So, if BYU is happy with their 3 L's for this upcoming year .... and just needed a practice player who is slow and damaged, more power to them. At least her passing numbers vs the Pac12 were higher than Millers. But maybe the V coaches hadn't told those Pac12 teams about her weaknesses so they didn't know how to attack her?? Also, the "talented" V team I am talking about not finishing as high as they should have (one of many) was coached by Carlson and had Lee, Miller, and Damuni ..... not Johnson on it. You can't be serious that Carlson is claiming responsibility for these 3 athletes successes? That team also had the 2 Harvey girls at Tex and Stanford. That lends credence to the comment by a V coach to me that Carlson tells his team that if they follow everything he teaches them that they will win. It is only when his teams lose that he blames the players. "They just didn't do what he told them to do" ... Check with all his old players and see what they say ..... don't take my info at face value. I have never stood in one of his after match huddles. Lets just wait to see how the girls perform at BYU under the same umbrella OR see if Carlson gets offered a college or pro job. I hope he does. It would be enlightening to see his coaching skills in a program where all the girls aren't funneled to him and can't stand playing for him. They would actually have to believe in his coaching skills and like him. We shall see. Lastly, Club V leads the nation in college recruits. This is accurate and I think it is something V can hang their hat on. But if you look at strictly the number of recruits in D-1 that isn't even a close statement. D-2 isn't either. But they do get a ton of D-3 and CC girls into GREAT college programs at those levels. V is a huge club. They also cater to players getting a spot to play in college. What they don't do is produce top players for D-1 on a consistent basis. Quantity over quality is the T-shirt that could be handed to V coaches and owners.

The fact that you try so hard to discredit them over and over makes you fit the persona of a jaded parent perfectly. You can’t change the facts of the past. The liberos in the V’s top 2022 team were elite athletes in a league of their own and Johnson’s game didn’t even come close to theirs. Carlson’s recommendation is only a small factor of the recruiting equation. BYU did their homework and were at these girl’s court side since they were 13-14 yrs. old. BYU knew what they were recruiting; hence, they played Miller and Lee as true freshman while Johnson barely played in one of Utah’s worse years. That alone should tell you something.

You also insinuated in a previous post she left because of disagreements with Heather, when the fact is she went to law school. This proves that your posts are full of non-sense and that you don't know what you're talking about. Why don’t you go and rent some equipment from Jonny’s new business instead of posting more of your “non-sense”? Damuni’s injury sidelined her from about Jan to mid-summer. Isn’t that about 6 months? She wasn’t even dressed for the spring games. What I meant by risks need to be mitigated is, that the moment Damuni got injured without even having a season under her belt, she became a risk. There is no way to tell how her body will hold up after several strenuous Big 12 seasons. Hence, I could understand why Heather didn’t redshirt her. Specially, if the new Bower setter is not skipped by the bad knee genes, which could also be another risk. Nevertheless, I do believe that a healthy Damuni can take this team to new heights. Alex Bower has huge upside as well. It is going to be an interesting battle… You can badmouth Whitney Bower all you want, but she is a remarkable setter and athlete. Her dumps equaled points most of the time. And it is just matter of time before she works herself into the Vibe’s lineup.

I am not establishing anyone's credibility. Certainly not Johnson's cred at this point. I am just entertained by you trying to establish the credibility of the V owner and lead coach as the reason all these top girls were/are successful. First you were protesting when I said that Carlson talked to BYU about Miller and Johnson and now you are admitting it. I am pointing out inconsistencies in your story and the talent evaluation of passers over the years in this BYU program and somewhat in the V .... which is just a small sample size but applicable to the current situation. So, we can see if BYU recruited Johnson as a slow and damaged practice player or not. If Johnson is terrible, BYU should have known it all along. Bad on them. If she is good then V and Carlson has some explaining to do. Time will tell us what the truth is. Good luck with your V teams in club season and the switching back and forth of the important players every set with the Carlson formula.

You have no idea what you're talking about. bbg - you are right on two things. Another one of Marn’s drama novels. BTW, have you heard of an elevator pitch or executive summary? I would guess, not– by the size of your posts. Drama Novel Spoiler Alert! * He’s a Bower hater. Please take with a grain of salt anything he says about them. * The University of Florida had 3 Monserez sisters attend their program under Coach’s Wise. Nothing unusual about that; It happens even outside BYU. * Why would Hiapo take a 2 year scholarship at BYU when UofA offered her 4 years? Like I stated before, 4 years is very rare for a Lib. Even if BYU offered two years to each, if I were Hiapo I would have gone to UofA too. Hiapo is a rockstar! *More isn’t always better. Should John Cook go and recruit more Libs because Rodriguez and Choboy choked during the finals? No. Those two are still some of the best passers in the nation. Plus there are always OHs who would gladly transition to DSs to get playing time. * Damuni would also make a heck of a DS if Alex Bowers ends up being the setter.
