Also Pitt current roster size is relatively small compared to years past. Do they have any HS players coming in the fall? If not, I have the feeling that a few transfer players might be in the plan.

What does Jepson absence has anything to do with Bayless playing time? Can Bayless play middle? We will find out. Why wouldn't they try to? It is easier said than done. I agree with you though that Bayless has lots of potentials.

I'd be shocked if Fischer hasn't known about Jepsens plans for some time now Then prepare to be shocked... because they did not.

We have Kiana Dinn S/OH and Mallorie Meyer Libero/DS joining as part of the 2024s. This makes a roster of 14. I would hope a middle will transfer in.

I guess he'll definitely go in the portal then. I asked a friend who's mormon about missions cause I didn't know anything at all really, and they left me with the impression that it's not typically a last minute thing where you just suddenly go with little warning - at least in their experience. Is it normal for them to just suddenly up and leave for their missions? Genuinely asking cause this is so surprising to me

And as someone who grew up around a lot of Mormons I promise it’s not something that happens at the drop of the hat. It’s usually planned roughly a year ahead of time. Sometimes more depending on where the church decides to send them. There’s no doubt in my mind Fisher knew this was in the works

If they said Pitt was shocked, they were. Simple as that

Sounds like pitt definitely didn't know - but also sounds like Jepsen likely knew for at least some time? Maybe not, but if so I'd imagine she might not return to pitt... ever. I wouldn't want / trust her anymore IF that's the scenario

I wouldn't want / trust her anymore IF that's the scenario I honestly think it may just be a timing thing or a when during the process the communication happened. Prep and application for the mission is done in advance. Not sure when the application petition is granted and assignments and timing of departure are given (I don’t have much experience with how Mormon missions are granted). Regardless, seems like the decision timing was not ideal and came as a surprise to the staff.

Yea I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to demonize Jepson in any way because I don't know the backstory - I hope she would've at least notified the staff when she applied for a mission, but its sounding like maybe not. I really don't know enough about missions to make an informed guess as to what happened but its definitely an unfortunate situation for pitt On the bright side, weren't ppl pretty impressed with the freshman middles?

Simple as that I wasn’t trying to question them apologies if it came off that way I was just saying from what I understand of Mormon missions the person going on the mission and the church typically know WELL in advance. So if Jepsen didn’t share the possibility of her going on a mission with Fisher then that was her choice. Be it a bad one imo but still her choice

it is nuts she couldn’t wait until after the season. I’m gonna side with they didn’t know considering she got 404’d on the roster🙃🙃
I would be livid if I was a Pitt fan/staff member. if she wants to go on a mission she has every right, but everyone saying that this is planned far in advance is correct. this should’ve been relayed to the staff before the fall/winter portal opened so they had time to look for a portal replacement. is she not about to miss two whole seasons if she even does decide to come back to volleyball?
