Every time I see Illini now, I think of the student announcers for the Minnesota match last year pronouncing it “ill-in-eye” and now I can’t unhear it.

Beautiful job Kingsley. It's a pleasure reading your season previews. It’s not just the information, although that’s outstanding. They’re so well written.

Wisconsin pulls a Türkiye. As seamlessly as Karakurt, Smrek slides to the left side, becomes a first team all-American six rotation OH, and is the best passer for Canada in LA28. (This is a joke), BUT wow there is limited pin depth for Wisconsin. I think you have to consider the 5-1 with one of your opposites on the left and DS for both the opp and oh. If nothing else work it in practice in case of injury. I think they are going to try this. I have suggested it before and been told I am insane. I think they should work with both Anna and Devyn as OH some in practice and see who does it better. I can see Anna hitting over all those short Big Ten setters down the line like they aren't even there!

Smrek passing? lol you guys can’t be serious. If she was the OH1 in the rotation and they DS’d the opposite, it would be limited rotations with only Franklin and the libero on the floor to pass. I *could* see it. The biggest issue here isn’t the passing rotation, it’s 1- the ability for her to actually hit an out of system ball, and 2- the ability for the setter(s) to consistently find Franklin out of the back row. I have no doubts Franklin can score behind the 3m line, but I’m not as high on Charlie F.’s setting ability as others seemingly are and they’d need a pretty good setter to be able to utilize Franklin in the back row off errant passes.

Did I miss some big upgrades Illinois and Michigan State made in the off season that justify ranking Washington beneath them, or is this just Big 10 bias? Because Washington ended a down year over 20 spots ahead of both of those schools in the RPI ranking (they actually finished ahead of all 4 of those schools, but I could see Ohio St and Indiana make big strides this year). Penn State joined in the 90s and will still tell you they a bit get the "you're an outsider" impression from the OG. It'll be a bit and a bit before any of this feels normal. You just gotta roll with it.

Patience was never my strong suit lol I have this (maybe unrealistic) feeling that each former PAC teams is going to pull of at least 1 major upset during conference play.

I didn’t watch enough Wisconsin last year to realize they didn’t set out of system balls to the right pin. You’d think they would send Smrek some high balls with her height.
