Athletically, the only reason to run a conference tournament is to rectify any ambiguity produced by the unbalanced schedules. The logistics are tricky.
Politically, I think the problem is getting consensus on the format. You could probably get a majority to agree one having one, but how it would look is a different issue. With 18 teams, that just got even harder.

Exactly who selects this group for thus match? I don't know who, but at least it isn't the Red Hat lady this year. I'm just glad that they got the two future star B1G setters on the right team: Team Fire, set by Charlie Fire-bringer, against Team Ice, set by Icy Starck.

I just came out to the tv with bowl on with Minny who is 5-7. How does a 5-7 team deserve a bowl. That’s just silly

I have never agreed with 500 teams qualifying for bowls. 5-7 is just funny. If this was psu I’d say nah I’m good. I’m gonna hang with family and friends over holidays. My guess is most the players probably don’t care much it’s just a way to generate some xtra money for school. That’s all. The other issue is unless you are in what is rapidly becoming known as the invitational then many players sit out anyway. Playoffs have strict concise rules, not a bunch of guidelines open to interpretation when making decision. Where depending on teams they can choose to put more emphasis on one thing then another. That’s not a playoff that’s a invitational. Any sport where you have to have a committee sit down and determine who gets in and who doesn’t isn’t a playoff.

Still glad our team had the opportunity for some post season play. It's gonna get crowded in the middle of Big Ten conference. At least with two divisions teams like Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota had hope of maybe getting to Big Ten Championship. One division starting in 2024. At least we still have the rivalry games.

It’s unnecessary. It’s like giving everyone a participation trophy just for playing

Anyone that wins the B1G conference tournament is absolutely worthy of making the NCAA tournament. This isn't just getting lucky in one match - this is winning multiple matches against some of the best teams in the country.
If a conference tournament cheapens the regular season - then one would have to conclude that the NCAA tournament cheapens the regular season. As good as Texas was/is - they weren't objectively the best team over the whole season, but they are the National Champions.
I am not talking about any other conference playing a conference tournament - I am talking about the Big Ten. Why? They are the best conference and the competition played in a conference tournament would be Epic. The fan interest would potentially exceed matches in the NCAA tournament - and it would bring increased money and notoriety to the sport.
We can talk about a full round robin (plus 3 extra matches) for the regular season - but that isn't the same as everyone having the same schedule. Who you play in those extra 3 matches will matter - and even more important - where you play those key matches will be critical to winning the regular season.
There are many options for a conference tournament that would work - but here is one that I have never heard mentioned.
Play a 16 (or 17 game season). Top 16 teams qualify for the tournament (teams 17 and 18 can play each other a couple times). Make it a 2 weekend tournament. Top 4 teams (seeds) host the 1st and 2nd rounds in 4 team pods. Then the Final 4 plays the final weekend for the conference tournament championship a a neutral site. Losing teams the first weekend play each other to get them to 18 (or 19) total conference games.
