Austin Skyline has two top recruits who are Texas commits and they tied for last place. Rankings don’t matter. Dallas Skyline has a lot of underrated players imo. If you’ve watched them, their team chemistry is unparalleled. I wouldn’t say that rankings “don’t matter”. They aren’t always accurate and there are misses and certainly players that get far too much hype and players that don’t get enough. Just because a players club team doesn’t do well as a collective unit, doesn’t mean much about the individual players abilities or potential. Players like Kendall Kip and Skylar Fields weren’t even playing on open level teams, but nobody would say that those players were less likely to be good college players because their club teams weren’t great. Skylar Fields’ HJV teams were certainly playing Open…

it’s definitely true that not every team with a top 20 recruit makes it to the top (this is a team sport for a reason) but I do think it is rarer for a team without a top 20 recruit to make it to the top. Put another way, almost all top finishers do have a highly coveted recruit, so it’s impressive when a team without one does well. that’s all!

Kipp played 18American her last year of club Correct, also, I should have stated that with Fields, she played on a team that did not qualify for open at nationals (despite having Fields and a number of other elite recruits) in 18's. And this same group in the young ages never did particularly well playing in Open. I remember this distinctly because in that recruiting year cycle, we talked about how just because certain teams have top ranked players on them, doesn't mean they are going to be a top club team, conversely, top ranked club teams can have a number of good, but not "star" recruits and do well because the whole is greater than the sum of their parts.

Key word is team . It’s really difficult in club volleyball for the buy in to occur with so much outside influence from parents.

Anyone watch 16 open finals. Phantom out of rotation and then ace for championship. Is that what happened? I don't think it was phantom just ... really unfortunate at that point in the game. I think based on being in Ro 5 .. the back row rightside was standing on the wrong side of the libero. Not even in the serve receive pattern. That coupled with the let serve ace that dribbled over is a really anti-climactic way to win a final (or a really sad way to lose a final).

I see CUVC 17’s (looks like they nearly beat AZ storm), MAVS, ID Crush. Did I miss anyone?

The facilities were fine. But only one vendor inside who charged exorbitant prices did not go over well with the attendees. There was a food court, but their prices were not cheap either, but at least it offered different choices. You had to be prepared to spend over $30 for a wrap and a drink.
Temperatures averaged about 115 degrees outside. There doesn't appear to be a real strip anymore where you can walk along the sidewalks to the various casinos. Las Vegas appears to be a lot more spread out now.
Don't know if the pandemic influenced this but lots of closed buildings and empty parking lots that had chain link fences preventing anyone from using them. The area where the volleyball was played seemed to be under destruction or buildings left abandoned.
But if all you cared about was the volleyball it seemed to go well. Though the grandstands were rather small so when the finals happened there was not a lot of seating capacity.
