someone hasnt watched Alexia this year i mean Alexia as a backup to ebrar makes more sense than Sinead. Or maybe Melly 2.0 surprises everyone lol yeah maybe. Sinead is maybe a slight upgrade over Asli Kalaç but barely if at all, and would feel wrong after all the work and time Asli has put in

With Orro heating up this season, Italy is starting to look like an even bigger factor in the Olympics this summer. I feel like it’s pretty clear that Egonu, Sylla, Orro, De Gennaro and Fahr are locks for starting (although we really haven’t seen Fahr on the national team for the past 2 years…). Who else do you imagine will start for them? How has Pietrini been in Russia? Is Danesi still at the premier level she was at 2 year ago? nah they'll get thrown out by some team in the quarters

Shes very good at quick middle attacks like Zehra

They never get very far despite being a strong team on paper. But for one reason or another, getting on the podium in the Olympics seem so very difficult for them. Of course, the future isn't necessarily dictated by the past, so its always possible that Italy can make a breakthrough. But for now, that historical pattern seems to hold.

Italy's women's and men's teams have yet to qualify for the Olympics. If they succeed, the women's team will probably go out in the quarters. The problem is too much pressure on the team. The men's team has been trying to win gold for 30 years; the women's team could have had better management. Of course, one hopes that with Velasco things will improve at least a little bit. However, it seems that in the prossiam season Pietrini will play for Conegliano and Danesi for Milan.

You mentioned Pietrini, a bit off-topic, but I haven't paid attention to her career lately. Does she still not wear knee pads? I hear rumors its because she has some kind of skin allergy to the knee pads? I mean, the impact on her knees without pads...ouch.

so no core teams, but also no relegation, so you're saying we're stuck with korea for one more year 🤣

So does this mean no more Challenger Cup starting next year? It says that the bottom placed team will just be replaced by the highest ranking team not in the competition.
imo they should relegate the bottom 4 teams, especially if they are expanding to 18 teams

China released their 22 women training roster for 2024 and Zhu Ting is not in the list. Zhang Changning is back although I'm not sure why because she is still in terrible shape and just coming back from injury/married life and barely played for her team. Cai Bin is still the head coach. Regarding Zhu Ting I saw this on Twitter/X yesterday: (translated from Chinese to Turkish to English so maybe not completely accurate)

I wish China and Japan had to earn their spots in a last-chance Olympic Qualifier like the old formats rather than the point system now that they have earned enough ground in to keep their spots. I know why it exists (and I'm definitely not mad at it, there could be worse systems). But it would be interesting to see if Belgium/Germany (or whoever doesn't make it of Netherlands/Canada) or any other Olympic hopeful could string together some big run in an Olympic Qualifier.
I mean, both Canada and Netherlands beat China IN China in the 2023 Olympic Qualifiers. They could beat China again at the VNL in 2024 and still not qualify......

Thailand's head coach Danai Sriwatcharamethakul is apparently taking a 1-year break from coaching the NT.
