I'm really interested if Miami (Ohio) can make some noise this year. Yeah, their strength of schedule is pretty awful, but, they've shown they can hang with major competition. It's a shame they couldn't find a big-time pitcher, they would seriously be a threat to go far in the NCAA Tournament. Their offense scores even against the best teams, but, they may not be able to out-slug Top 16-25 teams in the tournament.
Miami-OH is averaging a whopping *THREE* home-runs PER GAME! Virginia Tech is the only team in the country that averages more than 2 at 2.22, and Oklahoma is 3rd at 1.89.
Two players on Miami-OH are slugging over 1.000 and those two players have a combined 129 RBI's on the season so far in 44 games played.

The WCC only has 5 teams - but still gets an automatic bid. It's only a 16-game regular season schedule, you play each conference opponent in a 4-game series. No conference tournament! These standings are.... wild. There's a possibility that the conference champion is something like 9-7. LMU beat Santa Clara 3-1 Saint Mary's beat Pacific 3-1 Pacific beat San Diego 3-1 San Diego beat LMU 3-1 This week - LMU is up 2-1 on Pacific and Santa Clara up 2-0 on Saint Mary's, but Saint Mary's is leading the 3rd game of the series right now.

The Ivy League has a 4-team tournament to determine the AQ, but, kind of drama in the regular season race. Three teams tied atop the standings at 14-7, Princeton, Harvard, and Yale. Dartmouth is #4 at 13-7, and had a chance to become co-champions for the regular season as well today against Columbia.
Unfortunately, the Dartmouth/Columbia game was cancelled. So, Dartmouth didn't get an opportunity to become co-champions.
The thing is, it didn't change the tournament bracket whether Dartmouth won or not. They were losing the 4-way(!) tiebreaker. It is kind of crazy there was a 4-way tie for a regular season title. Guess we're just lucky that it's not 5, because in that case, someone could have been a regular season champion and NOT made the Ivy League Tournament. Talk about whacky.

The Softball Committee does just draw up brackets for the storylines. Hate to break it to you, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Man.. I really feel for BYU.
I really don't like Penn State, Indiana, and Florida Atlantic getting in instead of BYU.
I understand the UCF decision - UCF beat BYU(3x)
BYU beat Oklahoma State(2x), and Oklahoma. The #5 overall seed TWICE and the #2 overall seed.
-FAU best win is Charlotte, a team at exactly #25 in RPI. -Penn State had one top 25 win (Arkansas, #12 seed) -Indiana's didn't beat ANYONE in the top 25. Their best win is Northwestern.

What RPI can do when you only play 24 conference games in a 50-60 game schedule and the sport has a lower spread of W-L records.

It would be interesting to see what would happen with the volleyball RPI if a conference was a dominant as SEC softball. Massey has all 13 SEC softball teams in the top 36 in the country. We've never seen anything close to that in volleyball.

It doesn't seem possible in volleyball without more non-conference matches. Every softball team in the SEC had a winning record. Meanwhile, Cal and Washington State volleyball were a combined 22 games under .500 in 2014 despite going 8-2 and 9-3, respectively, in the non-conference. Since you have to have a .500 record or better to qualify for the tournament, I just don't see how a volleyball conference could get everyone is under the status quo.
