www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/1b546364-14f2-4e28-b9cb-70d5a2c831c3You can still scroll for now back to the start of the game (its currently live in this thread) but Louisiana-Lafayette fans were harassing Cal softball players for kneeling during the national anthem. I heard "Stand up California!, Stand up!" clearly, but also I thought I heard some words about liberal, woke, etc. but I'll have to listen closer. Some of the Cal players who were NOT kneeling went over during the national anthem to comfort and surround the players who were, and it looks like one of the Cal coaches went out to kneel next to them.

Wait ... you mean Cal Berkeley student athletes might be kind of liberal? GTFO! Hold the presses! Breaking news! I think the ULL fans should have been removed from the contest. That's the news, but, given it's Lafayette, Louisiana, I wouldn't be surprised if nothing happened to them. Fans should not be able to harass players during a contest for kneeling during an anthem. When it happened at Nebraska and they harassed Rainelle Jones, I can't remember if the fan got tossed or not.

I wasn't aware people were still doing this. Which? Kneeling or being upset by kneeling? Or both? It's true, I haven't seen a lot of kneeling lately.

Fans should not be able to harass players during a contest for kneeling during an anthem. Arguably fans should not be allowed to harass players at all, but it happens all the time.

I think if you take public, visible political stances people should be allowed to respond. I don’t see any of “stand up”, “liberal” or “woke” as over the top personal attacks (they all reference political beliefs). If it turned into personal attacks outside of their public political displays, I think it’s a different discussion.

I found this spectator policy: I think it's definitely meant to intimidate the Cal players to stand up during the national anthem. I think it's grounds for removal for sure, but, I could definitely see the gray area. But is your opinion this way for all NCAA contests, or are you just making this statement in general? Of course, I have opinions that I recognize may not be the best from a policy standpoint, but, I'd argue this is fair game for dismissal. But we all know these fans are probably a part of the "just peacefully protest!!" crowd, am I right?

I also am not sure this is political in its entirety (in the typical left/right sense). Black conservatives could certainly feel the need to protest against racism, right?

Rainelle jones was told "stand up, you piece of trash".
It would be interesting to know if Nebraska officials would have removed and banned the fan if he didn't add the piece of trash part (I looked it up and the fan was removed/banned).

That's a public display, and potentially political. I think respect and civility in this type of environment is preferable.

I don't see yelling "stand up" as intimidating at all. Did anybody reasonably think that fan was going to do any more than vocally disagree with the athletes' actions during the anthem? For the record, I think a fan yelling at an athlete in this scenario is an idiot and probably somebody I'd never want to interact with. But I don't think we need to coddle people by saying they can demonstrate and if anybody disagrees with you, we'll remove them.
