On the other hand, it should be better than in recent years. The Hawkeyes will have a lot of trouble scoring, but they won't give away nearly as many points with unforced errors.

Heckle Cindy for me my Minnesota friends!! She HATES to be called drama queen, and it's hilarious to see her fight sitting down when the fans call for it with a "sit down coach" cheer.... typically, that is needed at many times during a Cindy Fredrick match. Be good to Chad though (assistant coach). He's a good guy.

Does being nice include chanting "drop chad, drop chad, drop chad"?
Minnesotans are generally too nice to do that sort of thing though.

Minnesotans are generally too nice to do that sort of thing though. I almost worked for Merchant & Gould in Minneapolis. But they seemed like such pricks that I ixnayed the offer. And one guy had bad breath. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's bad breath. He seemed evil, too. Yeah, I know they can't help the halitosis, but I can't help myself from hating them for it.

30-22, 30-17, 30-15.
2nd rally of the match lasted about 45 minutes. I thought Hartmann had a good game. Florian was solid again and Jones hit .786 (11-0-14). All the frosh got to play.
It wasn't one of Iowa's better matches, I'm sure.
Gophers had 66 digs (Gentil with 22), so it's not like they weren't being pressed.
Athena Mallakis scored the last two points with a kill and an ace. Nice, since it was sort of her night.

She's impressed me the most with her defense and serve receive. I'm not knocking her offense at all, she's just played extremely well on defense in every match that I've seen her play.
I've been feeling that with Marci (still not used to calling her Malama yet) having brought her level of play up even from last year's level, Paula playing as good as ever, KBow still playing good defensively, along with the addition of Sarah Florian the Gopher defense have a pretty decent chance by the time the NCAA tournament rolls around to be even better than it was last year.
I think their hitter coverage has been better in the matches I've seen this year than it has been even in recent years.
As for the MN vs. IA match, other than the "45 minute rally" (R)uffda! referred to it was relatively anticlimactic.
Iowa's players overall looked a lot more athletic than the players on the team before Cindy took over as the head coach, they played decent / good defense in spurts, and have pretty good hitter coverage overall but I was expecting more from the Hawkeyes given their defeating Northwestern and taking Michigan and Michigan State to 4 and 5 games.
It looks like Cindy has them headed in the right direction.
I think next year will be a key season for Iowa since they will be the "odd' team in the Big 10. The last time they had a really good showing in the conference was the yea before they're pevious turn at being the "odd" team. The year they were the "odd" team they fell back toward the bottom of the conference and haven't really recovered since that time.

It will be interesting to see how they work out the travel pairings next season. I am hoping they don't go with Wisconsin/Minnesota. I don't want the Gopher/Badger matches on wednesdays. On the other hand, it would make life hell for the other Big Ten teams by making two weekends very difficult (that one in addition to OSU/PSU). At least now, you get to play Iowa the same weekend you play the Gophers, which at least gives you hope for a win, no matter who you are.

If they didn't put MN/WI together as travel partners, who woudl they put with Minnesota? Northwestern?

It will probably look something like this. OSU/PSU NW/IL MN/WI IN/Purdue MI/MSU Iowa
I agree, though. I wouldn't be a big fan of a WI/MN travel partnership for the selfish reason of having a Wednesday match. However, the pairing could benefit both MN and WI by preventing other teams from focusing on just MN or WI for the weekend matches. Plus, when both teams play at home it will be a tough road trip for the visiting teams.
Plus, I think the WI match at MN on a Wednesday evening would probably draw more than the 1,600 people who attended the IA/MN match last night.
The exciting weekends to anticipate if this were to be the travel pairings - the weekends when MN/WI are matched up against OSU/PSU.

It will be interesting to see how they work out the travel pairings next season. I am hoping they don't go with Wisconsin/Minnesota. That's the only way they'll do it. Wisconsin pairs with Minnesota if Iowa is the odd team, with Iowa if Minnesota is the odd team, with Illinois if Northwestern is the odd team, and with Northwestern all other times (except when WI is the odd team). That's the problem (for MN) with the pairings as they are. It's also why Minnesota fans would like to see Iowa get better as a team (not quite as good as MN, of course).
