This year, yes. The year we're referring to is their freshman year.

In Arnott's and Mason's situation, there is something not usually there in everyday rivalry- the scholarship factor. I don't think there is a similar situation in other teams. Thus, one can almost feel that they have no love for each other. Take it further, either one may even be wishing the other make errors or flop on her face. If this is true- I hope not- then maybe we can see why the team is not jelling like last year. we may be reading too much into this. dave has stated who ever is "on" will start. in fact, i remember he said that both arnott and hittle had breakout games after the la tech game. i believe it will be either mason OR arnott at that the position for the rest of the season with the rest of the line up intact (i hope). the second left will most likely be based on performance. i'm not sure why we're concluding that personal issues between these two may be the reason for the lack of consistancy. that seems a little simplistic. during the first third of the season, the entire lineup was in flux. the good news is that they seem to be closer to an starting line-up (i hope)

No conclusion being made here. I'm not sure why you you said that. It's speculation. Further, it has nothing to do with Dave or what he says or does. It's simplistic thaT ANY ONE WHO'S ON WILL START. You miss the point, which is, is there more than the normal competition/rivalry between Arnott and Mason. One can speculate there is. Even if one is completely wrong, the speculation has merits. I just hope I'm wrong. But the team is not jelling as they did last year. That is no speculation. ANd when there is fierce rivalry among members of a team I will speculate that the team will not operate as a team but as individuals within a team. I just hope this not what's happening to the Wahine.

She got to go away to school and succeed in an environment that wasn't to her liking. She also played extensively since her freshman year against the top competition in the country, although without much success.

With Hittle being healthy, I think she is the best left side attacker we have right now. If she isn't, then Mason is it. The problem with Mason so far, is that she needs to be more consistent and not get lazy with her approach. She should keep adjusting her approach as the sets vary. If she can do that, then she will be great. Arnott is just to lazy right now. Houston will be leading the team by next year or so. She needs more time and she will be very scary.

Referring to your statement on Hittle: How healthy is she, if she is even "healthy?" Also, I kind of do agree with your comment about Mason, no question she has the talent, but the only thing that i'm concerned about is when the going gets tough, can she handle the pressure? I remember when they played Washington and she made some of the dumbest errors, not so much of the hitting out errors. So will she crack under pressure?- that's the only thing right now that i'm concerned about.
In your comment towards Arnott, I don't think she is lazy, I just think that she just isn't that smart of a hitter. She can't just be so one-dimensional in her vision. May'be next year it'll come to her.
About Houston: by 2007, I like the Wahine's chances. The only thing i'm worried about is the setter.... hopefully, we can recruit someone else and revert to a 6-2. ;D
But time will tell.
