I was only able to listen to bits and pieces of the show, but this is what I can remember. Talked about road trip, game at New Mexico State played very poorly in the first two games, but made adjustments to the block that shut down their OH’s the rest of the match. Thinking back it was something they should have picked up by watching film.
Talked a bit about Sarah Mason, Dave said she played really well on the road trip. There was a definite adjustment period coming from Oregon to Hawaii. He talked about Oregon not having a lot of pressure to win, she wasn’t expected to do as many things, but at Hawaii more is expected, lot of pressure to win etc. Interesting note, they tried to recruit her out of high school and she wanted to come to Hawaii, but they only had one scholarship available at the time and it went to Alicia Arnott instead.
Tara Hittle still not 100% has a deep bone bruise and high ankle sprain, she’s not the same player as in the spring, but need her all around game. She’s a competitor and despite all the injuries still wants to play.
On recruiting is done for next year (2006) they have 2 scholarships available and they are already taken, can’t say anything until they sign in November. Talked about difficulty of getting recruits to Hawaii, they have to pay their own way for unofficial visits. Actually said a recruit is supposed to come for an unofficial visit this weekend, of course can’t mention any names.
Last thing a caller wanted to know if WAC championship banners could be hung in the SSC, not only for volleyball but also for basketball. Dave personally is in favor of idea, but right now University policy is only national championship banners can be hung in the arena.
Other things were said, but like I said I was only able to catch bits and pieces.

Are there any other sports besides women's volleyball, men's volleyball, and possibly coed sailing that UH is actually good enough in to contend for a national title?

If you ever get a chance to hear Cathy Nelson doing color on TV or talk to her in person, you will know what I'm talking about when I say, it's "SHoji" not "Sojee." It's remarkable how often she mutilates names.

Yeah, I'm assuming that was who Dave was talking about. Those are the two recruits listed on Rich Kern's site. This makes sense this Boogard and Prince are the two scholarship players graduating this year.
For 2007, I think there would be 4 scholarships available since Kamana'o, Thurlby, Arnott and Mason all would graduate.
The recruit on the visit mentioned on the show probably referred to an '07 recruit.

Are there any other sports besides women's volleyball, men's volleyball, and possibly coed sailing that UH is actually good enough in to contend for a national title? Well, I would say 75% of D1 schools have no teams that could ever compete for national titles. At least UH has a few.

Although it never won the NCAA title, the baseball Bows were consistently in the top 10 in the late 60's and 70's. I believe. Several of those years they were ranked #1 for most of the season. They started going downhill after the baseball stadium was built. Perhaps someone more astute than I can shed some light on this.

Not vb related, but who cares I see all sorts of non vb info on this board. The baseball team was a top 20 team from the late 70's until early 90's under coach Les Murakami, they made it to the national championship game in 1980. They also had numerous regional apperances throughout the 80's and 90's. The team fell on hard times in Murakami's later years . He sadly suffered a stroke and was unable to coach his last year, but glad to say he is doing well and recovering. The admin originally wanted to hire Pat Murphy, head coach at Arizona State, but I think he just used the Hawaii job as leverage to get a better deal at ASU. They hired instead Mike Trapasso the top assistant at Georgia Tech. He came in with a lot of hype, as he was rated the top assistant coach by Baseball America. However, so far in his 4 years the team has yet to make it to postseason play and have largely underachieved during is tenure. A lot of fans (including myself) have grown impatient with Trapasso especially considering how highy hyped he was coming in. I have a feeling that this next year could be a make or break year for him, if they have another underachieving year he could be gone, Well back to volleyball, with 4 scholarships open in 07, I'm sure Shoji and Co. will be working hard on the recruting trail, we really need some good recruits if we want to remain a top 10 team.
