Florida wins 30-22, 30-22, 30-24. Game three wasn't even as close as the score indicated, but Florida got lacadaisical at the end. Pretty much dominated the match.

So I'm looking at the stats and I think the scorekeeper messed up. The stats don't say it, but I thought Angie did a great job distributing the ball today. She really had a very nice match all around. Florida passed pretty well all day, so that helped. The times we did get blocked, weren't her fault. Jane is still hitting into the block way too much. Florida got sloppy at the end of game 3, but otherwise, I thought they played very well. Didn't think Jane had that many hitting errors, but oh well. She played well all the way around, blocking and digging. I counted Amber with 10 kills, they only give her 9, not sure about that. She played very well today. Marcie was her usual consistent self. She's not ever gonna hit for high percentages, consistently, but she makes very few mistakes. 10 kills, 13 digs, can't complain about that. Also, I thought Rhian had way more than 8 digs. She played terrific ball and served very well. Kisya was the best middle on the court today by far. She had a very complete game and it was a lot of fun to watch. On top of the kills and blocks, she had a serving run in game 1 that put that game out of reach. It was 5-4, she served until 12-4. I think that was a key run in the match. Tennessee got all sorts of out of sync with their passing from that point on. I thought Kari played very solid as well, esp. in game 1. Some nice kills early to get her going and she blocked very well. I thought Rachel actually had a bad match. I see she had 17 digs, but she left several more out there that she has been getting to this year.
On the other side, anyone know why Amy Morris didn't play? Is she in the doghouse? She warmed up with the team, was in uniform, but didn't see the court. She wasn't injured. Without her, UT really struggles on serve receive. Andre was scary good in game 1, 8 kills, but she had 1 the rest of the match. Florida did a great job shutting her and Blum down, though Blum did make her mark blocking. If you could morph Andre's offense with Blum's blocking, you'd have one of the best middles in America. The player who really stood out to me was Milan Clarke. I was impressed with her. She made a nice block solo on Amber, her only error of the match, in addition to having a good match offensively. Only a freshman, she's gonna be a good one. Fautsch, not impressed at all. I'm not sure how she got 5 blocks, I think the scorekeeping was generous there. Stoyanova on the left side, pretty good, but I still say the team is better with her on the right. I love her game, but she just doesn't look comfortable on the left side, in my opinion. Knytych, considering the poor passing, actually set a nice match. Though that's not surprising. She's a senior and she's very good.
All in all, it's nice to get the win and end the 2 match losing streak to UT at home. I have no doubt it'll be a tough match up in Knoxville in a few weeks, esp. if Morris is back. Also, Johnson wasn't suited up, I guess she's hurt? Won't surprise me to see UT in the SEC tournament finals as well. Once they get healthy and their full lineup out there, they'll be very good.

Good summary of the match, Gator. Just a few comments to add: Hampton was obviously playing ill tonight, meaning she didn't look like she was feeling very well. Her hitting percentage is actually either a little better than Collymore's or equal. She also passed better. McCray and Davis both looked great tonight. As mentioned before, it looks like Klinkenborg has the M2 sewed up, Bowers didn't see any action at all. Revenge is sweet.... Now off to Gator Growl.....

Marcie's not ill, she's fasting for Ramadan so she can't eat or drink until sundown. With an afternoon match, that's probably why she looked like she was sick.

Why was the match so early? I heard it was homecoming, but why should that matter? Is there a parade tonight or something? Anyway, Florida is quite a bit better than they were last year. McCray helps them quite a bit, but the main difference is that they are making a lot fewer mistakes. Collymore still could use to hit a few less balls out of bounds, but they are more solid as a team this season, from what I have seen. Killingsworth could be very, very good by the time she is a senior, not that she is bad now. Engel was okay today, but she needs to realize that she isn't clearly the best floor defender on her team and avoid cutting in front of people. I think she gave away at least three points on balls that other players should have been able to dig easily. McGinnis looks a lot more confident this season in the two matches I have seen. Is it just me, or does Florida have the physically strongest looking team in the country seemingly every year? The one negative I would have to say about the Gators is that I think they hit too many back row attacks. I know this has been a staple of their offense from what I have seen in recent years, but I don't think you are going to be able to score on it efficiently against the kind of teams they are going to be playing at the end of the year, even with the great athletes they have hitting the pipe attacks. One bad thing about it; if it gets blocked, it is pretty much straight down.
As for UT, they didn't look very good today. It looked like Morris could have helped, as their passing was pretty poor. I think that helped take Andre out of the match offensively in the last two games. The best way to stop her on the slide, from what I have seen, is to serve the Vols out of system so she can't run it. I agree with Gator that Stoyanova looked more comfortable hitting from the right side. Of course, since Florida had two blockers up against her a lot, that didn't help her comfort zone any. Blum did have some nice blocks. On the whole, though, their back row play left something to be desired. They will have to be a lot better to give themselves a chance in the rematch in Knoxville. Personally, I think things are going to return to normal in the SEC this year. Any games the Gators lose will be due in large part to them making mistakes.

Florida has Gator Growl, which is their big homecoming pep rally. Basically, it's the largest student run pep rally in the country, 50-70,000 fill up the stadium on Friday night of homecoming. They have cheesy skits and a laser show and fireworks and they always bring in a big name comedian and/or musical act to perform. In years past, they've had Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Foxworthy, Jay Leno, Bob Hope, Billy Crystal, Bill Cosby, Dennis Miller, Robin Williams, among others. It's really a big deal. This year they had Wayne Brady and Greg Giraldo(I must admit, don't know who he is, but apparently he does stuff on Comedy Central).
So, in order to avoid conflicts with Gator Growl and to alleviate traffic problems, the match was played at 4. Soccer played at 2 to avoid conflicting with anything. There was a homecoming parade this morning as well. Very busy time on the campus. Basically, the whole town shuts down and campus is crazy all day long.
And yeah, I agree about Florida using the back row too much. It wasn't successful at all today. It's good to have it in your arsenal, but going to it too often isn't a good thing.
As for being physically strong, they take great pride in that. Matt Delancey, the strength trainer, has the girls working their butts off and it shows on the court. Florida might not always be the most talented team on the court, but they will be the most physical and in the best shape.

I think the UT team from last year is almost back, but they need to get it going soon. Losing in Gainesville without Morris is no big deal. They will find a way to win at home the next time, I'm counting on it. I just haven't seen the fire out there yet this year. I expected Faustch to add more, but they just aren't clicking yet. I would have guessed they would have a much better record and still be ranked at this point of the season, but they can still come back and do it in the SEC tourney.

Thanks for the notes about the Volleyball match. A little off-topic, but I'm looking forward to the Bengals taking out a Florida team Sunday night!!
Who knows, maybe even Kelley Washington (former UT receiver) will suit up and catch a couple touchdowns agains the Jaguars.
