As I watch the Penn State/USC match and Toby started going off in the 3rd, I started thinking about who is the most exciting player to watch in college volleyball.
Some names that came to mind: - Toby Ezeonu. Just an absolute beast that can take over matches and is a matchup nightmare for opposing teams. - Nic Slight. Makes his team better. Goes against the flow. Betters the ball. The guy you can stand (unless he's on your team). - Ethan Champlin. As a volleyball fan, the guy does it all so well. The equivalent of a 5 tool player in baseball. Probably the highest volleyball IQ.
Who you got? And why?

Is there a hitter that has more shots and tools than Henno right now? I mean volleyball IQ, he received a serve with his hands and went back over on one and got a point. That doesn't happen often at this level, honestly it shouldn't happen at all.

Henno would be my vote. Frenchie is all-around good and has so many shots, is great in serve-receive and has such a great volley-IQ

Gotta love a lefty on the left.

Personally, it's Spyros Chakas. As an attacker, he's fast and powerful, with great approach and footwork, bookended by one of the best step-closes I've seen in quite some time, men or women. At 6'4", he's also shown the ability to go OTT. He's also got a cannon when running the BIQ or serving.
To add to that, he is a good defender, whether at the net or when playing floor defense. He is a competent passer who has helped anchor Hawaii's line for years, though I would say that part of his game is the least developed. He is also a good server that can go on match-changing runs, but he can be error-prone at times from behind the line.
He seems to be strong mentally and a good teammate. I think fans saw evidence of this when he was struggling towards the end of last season. Though he wasn't as dominant at the end of 2023, he continued to plug away and helped his team reach the national final. This year, he is leading a more inexperienced Hawaii line-up and has done a good job so far.

Louis Sakanoko. In, Out, To the net, To the block... when he hammers the ball it makes you go "Ooooooooo"

1. Phineas Wiley, Dominican: Best Blocker to watch 2. Jacob Pasteur, OSU and Ben Harrington, Princeton: Best servers. 3. Toby Ezeonu, Penn State. Most fun middle to watch. 4. Andrew Rowan, UCLA: Best one hand setter 5. Cameron Thorne, GCU: Best ball bouncer.

Henno, my guy, I am sorry for your exclusion in the OP. Thanks for making me look like an oblivious idiot last night.

Rosenthal. That guy’s got like 5 or 6 BWFOW! Yes, he is better than the 3 other freshmen that get any playing time in the Big West (Aruya, Bouchkov, Philips). There is no way the All Big West freshmen team should have anyone besides these 4 this year.

This guy is doing it all. From every facet of the game. It used to be about his serve and wicked lefty attack from the left side but now he's a more complete player. I truly believe this past summer competiting in VNL and getting to be around the French men's senior national team raised his level of play to new heights.
