I wouldn't consider GCU's rating as being fraudulent because they did not make any claims on their ranking-Assorted polls created the ranking. The polls are collection of SWAGs of the folks voting in them. The polls are merely predictions.

if there's any reason to shut down GCU, it's for being a For-Profit university 🤣 Didn’t they get in trouble for misleading their students and %*$# recently? gotta look into that

Hey just clarify my response. Not taking anything away from Hawai’i. They played great and played like the No. 1 team in the nation last night. I just really didn’t like the narrative of this thread labeling college kids as frauds because they lost two matches to great programs.

Trying to stir up the hornets nest.

Clearly GCU should not only disband its program but the entire school should be shutdown after that loss. Also, USA Volleyball should ban all the GCU players from ever playing volleyball again because they lost. Folks, it was one match. Plenty of road teams have been served off the court at Stan Sheriff and have gone on to have good seasons. GCU is a good team. Let’s not call them frauds. 2 matches ... But agree calling them 'frauds' is a bit much ...

GCU recently dropped just *1* set in 6 matches to BYU-Stanford-USC. That's pretty impressive, even if none of those teams are the top of the top. Especially considering they played back-to-back in Provo and swept both.
Credit to Hawaii, but, no need to disrespect a GCU team. It's not easy to lose a tough 5 setter for your first loss, then have to come back the next night against a rowdy Hawaii crowd. Match played at GCU, maybe it's different. Not an easy place to play either.

But you are the #1 team and everyone and their mama is gunning for you. Rowdy crowd at Hawaii or not....that's what they signed up for and knew what they were coming into. Hawaii smacked Lewis and then smacked GCU right after. I think GCU is a great team. But these excuses for them gotta go! Like frl frl. You play to win in the environments you CHOSE to play in! They CHOSE to play in the Outrigger. They knew it wouldn't be easy and simply didn't pass the test. With that said....GCU can still be deadly good. But I think on the road, neutral or at GCU....Hawaii would have plenty to say about that.

It was two matches, not one, against top teams with a previous schedule that was weak. When teams play top competition those results matter. These two matches are telling. It is not the end of the story for GCU but it gives us all data. The title of this thread is silly. Of course the program is significant and this team is good. However, we want to give undefeated teams with a light schedules too much credit. When they loose to strong competition on back to back nights they should take a hit. Had GCU made a game of it against Hawaii then maybe that tells us something about their competitiveness. However, it wasn't really close. This happened last year and they stumbled the back half of the season. Irvine is competitive and pushes teams. GCU is competitive and is deserving of being ranked highly. Hawaii looked legit. Spyros is just as good as we have seen the last few years, Rosenthal is a top freshman in a key position and Todd at 6'9" is elite. Hawaii has answered the setting and oppo question and is poised to make a title run. Based on talent, results, strength of schedule I would rank it this way: 1. Hawaii 2. UCLA 3. Long Beach 4. Irvine 5. GCU I do think the top 3 are stronger then the rest of the field. However, we will find out in the next 4 weeks.

Hawai'i 3.) UCLA 4.) UCI 5.) GCU I think Hawaii is really good but I think if they can surpass tomorrow then the ultimate test will be those road series against LBSU and UCI tbh. And as history has shown us....Hawaii doesn't do well playing at the mid. So I just am praying to take at least one of those games in the series.
