I think whatever happens tomorrow UH moves up to #2 and LBSU to #1. So a showdown at the Pyramid will occur. Hawaii doesn't really do all that well at the Mid. So it will be interesting to see if UH can actually rise to the occasion next week. But until then, let's get this W against UCI! If UCI wins tomorrow UCLA will be number 2. UCLA beat UCI twice.

GCU recently dropped just *1* set in 6 matches to BYU-Stanford-USC. That's pretty impressive, even if none of those teams are the top of the top. Especially considering they played back-to-back in Provo and swept both. Credit to Hawaii, but, no need to disrespect a GCU team. It's not easy to lose a tough 5 setter for your first loss, then have to come back the next night against a rowdy Hawaii crowd. Match played at GCU, maybe it's different. Not an easy place to play either. Agreed! It was uncalled for to call them fraudulent. But I'm sorry but why we gotta hear all these excuses for them. GCU lost in a 5 setter, yes. But you are the #1 team and everyone and their mama is gunning for you. Rowdy crowd at Hawaii or not....that's what they signed up for and knew what they were coming into. Hawaii smacked Lewis and then smacked GCU right after. I think GCU is a great team. But these excuses for them gotta go! Like frl frl. You play to win in the environments you CHOSE to play in! They CHOSE to play in the Outrigger. They knew it wouldn't be easy and simply didn't pass the test. With that said....GCU can still be deadly good. But I think on the road, neutral or at GCU....Hawaii would have plenty to say about that. Lol. I’m not excusing any loss. I mean, this thread was started to attack them, so, you should expect some rebuttal. But if people want to demean Hawaii’s biggest win, that’s a path that can be taken, I guess? I like to look at the facts. GCU was rolled after a 5-set loss, but was on a tear against pretty good teams before that. Given a match at Hawaii, it’s not unexpected, the way they lost was surprising to me, and thats credit to Hawaii (and their fanbase).

Still though....when you the #1 team....play hard or go home. They all are after you. Hell, Lewis will be coming hard tomorrow as well after them! As I said, GCU is and can be scary good. I still think they will be despite the two losses. But, as #1 or top 5 it'd expected you perform and they unfortunately wasn't able to do that. They can make some big noise in the MPSF and fully expect that of them moving forward.

Although I can see where you're coming from about the excuses, I don't think they are as much justifications for a GCU loss as they are the real circumstances surrounding the match that took place yesterday night. The facts are as follows: GCU had to cross an ocean to get to Hawaii; the previous night, they lost a close five-setter against a team they probably should have defeated, which was probably discouraging (let alone being their first loss of the season); and then they played the host team, a top-three team, in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. However, such benefits, in my opinion, only serve to highlight the fact that Hawaii is a formidable team with the greatest home court advantage and support system in the nation, not to minimize any Hawaii victories.

Well i do appreciate a but of mutual understanding so thank you. But Of course their are real circumstances to anything for that matter. But.... 1.) You cross an ocean couple time zones away with the clear understanding that by agreeing to cross said ocean....it was a requirement to play in the Outrigger Tournament for which their program signed up for. Your trip arrangements are created by your own staff. 2.) Yes, they lost in a close 5 setter and had to play up for a top 3 team the next night. Yes, that may affect them mentally but this is men's college volleyball. They are in the ranks of the tops dogs here and rubbing shoulders with the Hawaiis, LBSU's, UCLA's and UCI's of the world. You play big or not. Everyone is playing 2 straight nights and then 1 day off before an afternoon match on Sunday. You rise to the occasion or you don't. Either you are prepared or you are not. 3.) They did play at a raucous venue against a great opponent. True. But they were always going to play the same great opponent at the same raucous venue whether they won the previous night or not. 4.) I agree wholeheartedly whether they win or lose this tournament its only gonna motivate them to get better going into conference season. I always said they are a deadly team to mess with. I just feel at times.....these reasons are used as justification to give GCU a bit of a pass and semi discredit how truly magnificent Hawaii played all night long. But nevertheless, I always thought GCU was super good. I just don't like reading what seems like excuses to justify their losses. Again, they sign up for this....so let's fkn GO BOYS!

There is no assurance that someone will be ready or able to carry out an activity simply because they sign up for it. The coaches undoubtedly signed up with the intention of winning, but they also clearly understood that anything short of top-shelf execution could result in a 0-3 finish, especially as the tournament approached. Nobody, in my opinion, is giving GCU a pass. If anyone argues otherwise, they were soundly trounced; thank God for the box score and replay. In reality, I believe that you will stand up for Hawaii at the first sign of bias in the opposite direction. However, to accomplish that, you must say that somewhere out there people are making excuses and stating that this victory is not good or should not be taken seriously because of unchangeable factors like the home court advantage and location. Hawaii is simply superior, and I said as much in my own appraisal of the competition. Hawaii wins this weekend, and it won't be close, even if every team plays to the best of their abilities. And yes, GO BOWS!

It's all here going on years (which now makes me realize that im old af even though im in my 30's lol) And I recognize that my opinion of what I deem excuses may be someone else's opinion on what they deem as just factors or circumstances of the game. That's fine with me. I disagree with the poster calling GCU fraudulent....I don't like what I deem as excuses. (Which may be people just simply pointing out different circumstances), and I think GCU despite the losses are a really good team and will make noise in the conference.

Lol Take that for what it's worth. Hahaha I know you are none of that....but the profile name gives me life sometimes. I dig it. Nothing wrong with it at all. 😆

Get plenty people be it coaches or former players men and women, Olympians, etc, that come on regularly to converse here on VT. You wouldn't always know it's them unless they reach out in your DM's. I think it's super cool tbh.

I never thought GCU was a #1 team but we can give them their flowers for coming into the weekend undefeated.
Personally I’m just happy to see a top tier school in Arizona.

I think they are legit. They just haven’t played this level of competition.
