Which teams are you all excited to watch and who will you be supporting in this tournament? To see what Zhu's return looks like, China. For the drama, Japan, the Netherlands, and Canada to see who snags the olympic berths. To grit my teeth and hope that they look like they're figuring things out on an upward trajectory towards the olympics, the USA.

China not inviting Yao Di to set is a CHOICE. A non-volleyball choice, i should add Just a couple of serves, I think.
I just hope Zhu can get used to Cai Bin's setters.

So do you think China will be competitive for the VNL title or a spot on the podium at the Olympics?

China not inviting Yao Di to set is a CHOICE. Ding Xia is still in the picture but I think Cai Bin is going to stick with Diao Linyu for some weird reason. Having Zhu T. and Zhang C. back will be nice to see. Did Zhang play professionally this past season in China? If so, what kind of form is she in? A bad choice in my opinion, I don't know what the beef is between Cai Bin and Yao Di, but either Yao wants to return to the team and Cai refused or Yao declined invitation back due to whatever issue she has with Cai. In any case, it does indicate potentially some issue with Cai Bin, as he has struggled to persuade top veterans like Zhu Ting, who declined to return to the team until literally like last week or so, when she changed her mind (rumor has it that it was Lang Ping, acting as a go between, that finally convinced her to return). Maybe they doubt Cai's coaching ability (quite a legitimate point) or has some other issue with the volleyball federation.

Zhu coming back should at least raise the morale of the team, which has suffered poor performance under Cai Bin. Zhu's on court leadership and experience should compensate for some of Cai's subpar coaching. But as far as actual performance, hard to say at this point. Zhu will help, but the team is still laboring under inferior instruction from Cai Bin, which will make things...difficult, potentially. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'll make my conclusions after I see a couple of VNL games.

Wait what have I missed about Yao Di? Well, Yao Di is Tianjin, Cai Bin is Jiangsu/Shanghai... most fans (who still care) feel it's an arbitrary exclusion.

I notice I skipped this, which funnily enough indicates its relative importance

Did someone post Brazil's training roster for the VNL somewhere or did I imagine that?
I feel like the event site has been slowly releasing rosters every day.
We know quite a few rosters already. Who is left to be revealed?

Wait what have I missed about Yao Di? Well, Yao Di is Tianjin, Cai Bin is Jiangsu/Shanghai... most fans (who still care) feel it's an arbitrary exclusion. You are not suggesting Cai Bin is so petty to let rivalry in the domestic league to dictate his roster choices are you? Hehehe. Speaking of Tianjin, long time coach of Tianjin, Wang Baoquan, was the NT head coach for a brief time, but had to step down to due to health reasons. Rumor has it the Chinese Volleyball Federation didn't really want Wang to come back as NT coach in any case, since Wang was seen as having a crude and uncouth personality (they want their NT coaches to be tough and demanding, but not act like a country bumpkin I guess). And Tianjin may dominate the domestic league, but when they face outside competition from teams in other leagues, they often come up short, meaning Tianjin's championships in the domestic league isn't all that impressive...although that may also be a fault with the federation itself in creating an uncompetitive domestic league.
