College student athletes are not paid to play or practice their sport(s). Thus by definition Amatuer Athletes. In 1950, the NCAA approved athletic scholarships. Today this includes tuition and living expenses, the later having NCAA limitations. Still they are defined as amatuer athletes. A fine line to be sure. Now there is NIL. The NCAA denied SAs the ability to use NIL for personal financial re-imbursement. The courts threw this out. Everyone else could use NIL for personal profit, including all students. The courts found this a violation of SA civil rights, understandably so IMO. Thus NIL is not related to amatuer or professional athletic status. But the issue I have is people demanding a 20 yr old soph be held to their personal standards because ITO she is a professional (not sure why that is relevant, but some cite this). In reality she is an inexperienced young adult, a very good volleyball player, and not tne best interviewee. The later not real important at this point in her career. Not something she needs fan (or antifan) criticism on IMO. She will improve. Many true adult professionals live by standards that many disagree with. They don't seem to care, nor face consequences. PS I too, a non-athlete, have marketed my NIL and was minimally successful. They gave me a Pepsi to go away and stop bothering them. The NCAA positon on NIL wasn't found to be a civil rights violation. It was an anti-trust violation, which is related to the NCAA's allowed monopoly on amateur inter-collegiate athletics. Just tell us you don't care what kind of person she is as long as she's a good volleyball player and she gets to play for Nebraska. We already know that anyway. Yep. This is the answer.

Low rent response. I personally know several couples who met on Grindr. And met their barber. Keep an open mind mama And those same couples are still on Grindr with a joint account and probably on secret accounts. Found a barber on Grindr??? That’s a new one! LOL Yea girl. And a realtor.

another gorgeous sunny day here in brooklyn! what's the weather like where you are? Gray, upper 60s and spotty showers in Lovely Lincoln. This summer in Nebraska has been the mildest and least humid that I’ve experienced being here. Or maybe I’m just getting used to it 😭😭

Or maybe I’m just getting used to it 😭😭 You're not wrong. It's definitely below average this year. August in particular has been well below average temps, even including the hot few days to start and end the month. There's a strong indication a La Nina will form in the Pacific in the next 30-60 days, which often means cooler, wetter weather for Nebraska. It often, unfortunately, also means a stronger, more deadly hurricane season for the South.

My thoughts exactly when someone showed me Sniffies 🙈 the few 9s and 10s weren’t worth the abundance of chonks and geriatrics with profile pics of their assh0les and dix. Sniffies??? More like Sketchy’s and Methies. Rough…. Lol based on what I saw, that’s prob right but I didn’t stick around to find out As a fellow Sidetrack and Hydrate brat, did you hit Market Days earlier this month??

Imagine it being 2024, and still unironically making statements like "college athletes are amateurs, not professional athletes".
Maybe in D3, I suppose. Not in D1 FBS "Power" Conferences.

I think if we look at it from that perspective there’s even less of a reason to keep dragging this topic on. If her employers, aka Nebraska and her NIL sponsors, are satisfied with her on and off court behavior, that’s all there is to it.

The thing is, you don't get to decide what other people want to talk about. Unlike the idiots talking about their dating life, the thread subject is clearly on-topic. But I expect it will go away once the NCAA starts playing matches. It would already have faded away again except for the people who are trying to defend Murray and the ones trying to deflect the conversation. The basic rule of Volleytalk (and other forums) is that if you want a discussion to stop, then DON'T POST TO IT. It will die on its own. Trying to kill it only keeps it going.

It's a much different scale, but was that how we should've treated the Baylor football scandal? "As long a Baylor and their boosters aren't upset, that's all there is to it" On the bright side, maybe having a villain this season will boost volleyball ratings and help grow the sport!

But I expect it will go away once the NCAA starts playing matches. It'll be interesting to see if Murray is treated like a male athlete would be by opposing student sections.

It’s an anomalous summer for sure, because the places I visited this summer that are traditionally cooler (back home on the Central Coast, Seattle/Vancouver, and Denver/Colorado Springs) were all HOTTER than it was in Lincoln during my stays. Then I visited a friend in Las Collinas, DFW, last month and will NEVER trash Nebraska’s summers again. 💀💀 I’m reconsidering canceling my trip back down to DFW for the SMU match in a couple weeks, because EVERYTHING IS ON HEAT down there! 😭

The thing is, you don't get to decide what other people want to talk about. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯 If Harper doesn’t want to talk about a personal matter, then none of you ppl get to decide how she responds or what she says. Well stated, Garrison!
