Follow up: so why was she in the press conference at all? Exactly. Why did Cook select her over other teammates if he was so in tune with her mental state? Perhaps if she's that fragile and "was going to lose it" her time would have been better spent elsewhere other than a media press conference. Pretty sure all the Nebraska players have done a press conference this month, or at least the ones who play the most definitely have. By all accounts from media reports, Harper did great with her interviews in the E60 documentary and really if you watched the whole press conference video she did a great job answering everything else except that one she didn't want to. Really not that big a deal. She probably didn't feel like crying in front of a room full of reporters and cameras.

Probably because if she didn't there would be a new 78 page thread about her on VolleyTalk about how she won't talk to media or do press conferences. That makes no sense. You really think Harper or Cook are concerned with a potential new (or any) thread on VT? I hope you are trying to show some dry humor (despite not using an emoji).

But I do guarantee if she just didn't do an interview all season she would be getting ripped on here and social media for not being able to "accept responsibility" or whatever you want to call it. What if she went up there trying to prove to herself and teammates and coaches that she could do it? And other than the one question, she did do it. She had a lot of good answers. I don't think people outside Nebraska understand what the media pressure is like. John Cook said on his radio show tonight that Taylor Landfair (she did press conference today) had never done a press conference in Minnesota. The Big 10 Player of the Year...at a top-15 program...she hasn't even played a second at Nebraska and she's already done a press conference. It's just different. Harper has probably been getting asked when she's going to talk to media for months now.

Those 18-22 year old male athletes at top programs absolutely experience more pressure than Nebraska volleyball players and are held to higher standards. Georgia running back Trevor Etienne got a DUI in the spring as well. Most suspect he'll be suspended for their season opener against Clemson, but nothing has been announced. He had three separate ESPN articles written about his DUI case.

This is a volleyball message board. And for what it's worth, Oklahoma State's running back got a DUI and got no suspension. But that's not really what I'm talking about here. Media pressure and discipline are two entirely different things.Â

But for whatever reason, football players in Tuscaloosa and basketball players in Chapel Hill are treated like adult men while some people want to treat Murray like a defenseless child who is being picked on.

It is pretty ironic to claim football programs have higher standards than womenâs volleyball and then cite Georgia as an example, the program that probably leads the nation in arrests and speed racing offenses in the last few years with almost zero discipline, or at least not enough to get the players to care.

Maybe the internet is just a toxic place where once you mess up, there's no coming back from it for a large segment of people.

Hey, you know. Nebraska press conferences are SO VERY SPECIAL that other press conferences really don't count. So until you have done a Nebraska press conference, you essentially have never done a press conference.
