That makes no sense. You really think Harper or Cook are concerned with a potential new (or any) thread on VT? I hope you are trying to show some dry humor (despite not using an emoji). I am being sarcastic. But I do guarantee if she just didn't do an interview all season she would be getting ripped on here and social media for not being able to "accept responsibility" or whatever you want to call it. What if she went up there trying to prove to herself and teammates and coaches that she could do it? And other than the one question, she did do it. She had a lot of good answers. I don't think people outside Nebraska understand what the media pressure is like. John Cook said on his radio show tonight that Taylor Landfair (she did press conference today) had never done a press conference in Minnesota. The Big 10 Player of the Year...at a top-15 program...she hasn't even played a second at Nebraska and she's already done a press conference. It's just different. Harper has probably been getting asked when she's going to talk to media for months now. That last paragraph needs to be immortalized in the Volleytalk hall of fame of ridiculous ass statements. My goodness. 🤦🏾♂️

Cook literally said on his YouTube radio show that Leyla and Taylor told him this afterward, so no he didn’t just make that up. Maybe she meant she didn’t do this in Minnesota with local media on a random weekday ahead of a meaningless scrimmage. I said “IN” Minnesota. Going to Big Ten Media Days, ohhhh wow. Iowa and Rutgers go to that also. No one would ever confuse them for having media interest. 🙄
What I find funny is all the non-Nebraska fans in this topic prove my point. It’s been 4+ months since a Nebraska player got a DUI and you all are still reading and commenting on this thread about a player not on your team…4+ months! Is there really nothing better to do than always be thinking about Nebraska?

(Hint: if you change the url from x.com to twitter.com when posting a tweet, the tweet will show up as a tweet in the thread instead of just a link) Edited and fixed—thanks for the heads up! 🫶

My goodness. 🤦🏾♂️ You really got me! This week alone 2 Nebraska TV sports reporters have tweeted preseason VB press conference clips that have had 700,000+ and 140,000+ (just since last night) views on twitter. Go ahead and find me another college volleyball program where that's happening. I'm glad to be proven wrong if that similar media attention is happening everywhere. I'm skeptical though...Minnesota volleyball did a local media day on YouTube from 8 days ago that has 478 views and 0 comments. A search of Kevin Hambly's name on Twitter has 4 search results in the entire year of 2024. 4 hits for the whole year! John Cook has more than that this morning. But OK, it's the same way everywhere else as it is at Nebraska.

Good lord, you're still hanging onto Cook's every word even after you have documented proof? Because NCAA mandated press conferences for every single team in the tournament, and Big Ten mandated press conferences for their required media day, are really great indicators of the media interest in individual programs...please. Taylor Landfair participating in those required settings does not remotely equate to Minnesota local media having a huge interest in covering the Gophers program. Nice try. The original post quoted Cook as saying she hadn't participated in a press conference, not a high pressure Nebraska volleyball press conference held in the softball stadium.

Poor choice of words on my part to say "never done a press conference in Minnesota". But quit being so literal. The NCAA and Big Ten required both of those press conferences posted above for all teams participating. They are told they have to do it even if there is nobody in the room. I wouldn't exactly compare that to an optional preseason press conference with a room full of reporters to preview an intrasquad scrimmage. One shows you have a lot of interest in your program. The other shows you are good at showing up when you're required to be there.

I don't need you to tell me how press conferences work. Have you ever organized one or even attended one?

I misspoke and made an incorrect statement. I'm sorry! Therefore my overall point is completely negated. Taylor Landfair definitely did receive the same level of media attention at Minnesota that she's going to have at Nebraska. Just like Rutgers did at Big Ten Media Days and just like LIU Brooklyn did at last year's NCAA Tournament because they also did a press conference. Everyone is the same and Nebraska is just like every other school in terms of media attention and fan interest. Happy!? Great. Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to go read the other 80-page threads on VolleyTalk on individual players from all across the country.

No one disagrees that Nebraska gets a lot of public attention, and almost certainly, the most attention of any program in the country. That's not what is being debated. What is being debated at the moment is whether it's factually true that Taylor Landfair has never participated in a press conference before (lol), and more importantly, how the Nebraska program, student-athletes and fans (especially those on VT) understand and/or react to that attention.

Follow up: so why was she in the press conference at all? Probably because if she didn't there would be a new 78 page thread about her on VolleyTalk about how she won't talk to media or do press conferences. I'd prefer that. This was dumb.
