That last paragraph needs to be immortalized in the Volleytalk hall of fame of ridiculous ass statements. My goodness. 🤦🏾♂️ You really got me! This week alone 2 Nebraska TV sports reporters have tweeted preseason VB press conference clips that have had 700,000+ and 140,000+ (just since last night) views on twitter. Go ahead and find me another college volleyball program where that's happening. I'm glad to be proven wrong if that similar media attention is happening everywhere. I'm skeptical though...Minnesota volleyball did a local media day on YouTube from 8 days ago that has 478 views and 0 comments. A search of Kevin Hambly's name on Twitter has 4 search results in the entire year of 2024. 4 hits for the whole year! John Cook has more than that this morning. But OK, it's the same way everywhere else as it is at Nebraska. It’s giving “I’m not like other girls” No one said that the statement was incorrect, just that it’s was a ridiculous thing to bring up. You don’t HAVE to sniff your own farts you know

Cook literally said on his YouTube radio show that Leyla and Taylor told him this afterward, so no he didn’t just make that up. Maybe she meant she didn’t do this in Minnesota with local media on a random weekday ahead of a meaningless scrimmage. I said “IN” Minnesota. Going to Big Ten Media Days, ohhhh wow. Iowa and Rutgers go to that also. No one would ever confuse them for having media interest. 🙄 What I find funny is all the non-Nebraska fans in this topic prove my point. It’s been 4+ months since a Nebraska player got a DUI and you all are still reading and commenting on this thread about a player not on your team…4+ months! Is there really nothing better to do than always be thinking about Nebraska? This is not about Nebraska. This is about Harper Murray. By people who have never done dumb stuff as a youth? I pity your self-rightousness ... no wait I loath it ....

Puts a different lens on this situation, doesn’t it? Mental health is no joke, can be debilitating, and impacts so many people around the world. Threads like this don’t help. Harper is working on getting the help she needs and is taking accountability. Maybe we can close this thread now and move on?

The ESPN piece on Nebraska really went into depth on Murray’s challenges with the aftermath of the Chamionship Game and background with her Fathers passing. I thought it was in stark contrast to the long radio silence from the program that frustrated many on here. Maybe the thought was that this piece was in-the-can and being released, so no need to address all the details earlier. Regardless, if you haven’t seen it, I’d pull it up and really there isn’t much more to say on the situation.

One of the first rules every college volleyball player should follow is to NEVER go on VT or other sites like it.

Well they wouldn’t have any editorial control over what was written or how it was presented so there’s no way they made a decision to allow ESPN to speak for them. Nebraska didn’t make any statement as to her mental health because it’s illegal for them to do so. It was her decision to share what was going on in her personal life, not anyone else’s.

It’s wild that there’s still no body cam.

It’s wild that there’s still no body cam. #DoubleStandard in Lincoln, as I understand it, the body cam footage can be used at trial, or made public if issues are raised about police conduct. Otherwise, freedom of information requests will likely be denied under state law. Here, no trial and no allegations of police misconduct, so I doubt it will be released. Not a double standard, just the way I understand it usually works in Nebraska — for any accused.

Posts to this thread calling for people to stop posting to this thread are self-defeating. Anyway, mental health is a real thing, and challenges to it can be scary, but it is not a magic two-word phrase that explains everything and absolves everything. We all have to take care of ourselves, mentally and physically, and some of us have harder challenges than others, and some of us need more help than others, but we also all have to take responsibility for things that are in our control.

The article should be required reading for any opposing fan intending to heckle her on these topics. Just don't people.
