Everyone moved on then wanywaid replied to a topic noone has discussed in 5 months. Final comments from me. And there were reasons of leverage this couldn't be brought up in June. There isn't a 3rd year B side player that hasn't played much, in any NCAA D1 sport wondering if they should transfer to find more playing time at the end of the season when the portal opens. The players discuss it openly. "Hey, are you thinking about transferring next year? You should." Because someone says they may look, they're a pariah? Anyone butthurt by that enough to be vindictive shouldn't have power over 19-22 year olds. There is no power balance between players and coaches so coaches need to be more magnanimous. Players can't leave their team mid season to go to another, but coaches can end the players year. The player then really has to finish the term for their credits, separated from their whole identity. And in Hawaii probably thousands of miles from home. You may not care as a fan, but the mental struggle is HUGE! The other players try to help out and give them encouragement but they're right in the middle of their season and only have a little time. There is no one watching. Press and athletic directors are only watching football and basketball. Keoni tried to shine some light on issues but it was quickly quashed and he was demonized by some on here. He is a great kid and gave everything he had to the team. If some introspection doesn't happen from this, it is going to happen again. Hawaii volleyball has a magical environment and the best fans and you as fans deserve the best. Grow up. When you dangle your foot out the door, don't act the victim when your employer tells you to leave. That's real life. It's childish to whine about it.

He wasn’t playing the victim card. He WANTED the fame. He was given significant playing time last year but he did not deliver. Hawaii will be having a highly praised incoming class and Keoni felt threatened that he would lose his starting spot. He wanted assurance from coach Wade but didn’t get it.
He was free to go, he did not need to announce his departure.

Warrior fans won’t put up with a player that is transferring out throwing a freshman under the bus. That is the main reason Hawaii fans were not having it from Thimm. Warrior fans know how coach Wade is already and his boomer rules etc Louis has shown nothing but class, that’s why warrior fans will always have his back.

Couple of things - just got caught up reading everything I missed.
Did the committee ever give a reason why they are implementing the 18 player roster? Were certain teams abusing the rule of choke players and getting an unfair advantage? Not that committees ever have or do explain themselves but just wondering. That was a good point someone saying it might spread the talent more wide between teams b/c of that 18 man roster limit.
And also with Keoni, he just made like he was better then he actually is - we don't really know what goals Charlie set with Keoni and if Keoni met them and if Charlie still didn't put him in b/c he didn't like him or maybe another player was just better then him. When Keoni was throwing everyone under the bus - talking about team culture etc etc. and he specifically mentioned team time going to Makapu'u - can any of the players tell me that Keoni tried to lead by example and organize a team outing (official or non official) for team bonding? Did he try to get all the players together to cruise and build the team culture - even if it was w/o the coaches?. If he did none of that - then he was part of the problem and not part of the solution. Upper classmen lead by example. OFC Its not like I have any inside info or connection to get those answers from the team but the only way I can be ok with what Keoni said and how he said it and how he went out is if he personally tried to rally the troops and it didn't happen or if it came to light that the coach(es) stopped him from being a leader and build culture etc etc. Still irritated the way he acted the way he did. My case in point, brett Sheweard - graciously transferred, did amazing at Irvine, won a title. Tale of two players... We will see how keoni does at BYU, if he starts, if he has another break out year or whatever's.

There are always two sides to everything. I think Wade’s reasons for “cutting” players were valid and you don’t, and that’s fine. These players stayed on the roster and a few had chances to come back but ultimately moved on. Hawaii was not the only program that lost rostered players during a season. Ottmar is happy on his new team with chances to get more significant playing time. Time to move on tbh.

Like, he got onto a team that outplaced Hawaii last season, seems like the only comment in order is a congratulations.

are we participating in any fall matches?
going to the mainland again?? lame. Does anyone know why don't we have one on the islands when the women's team is on the mainland? It would be an easy cash grab IMO.

Yet everyone... and I mean EVERYONE... winces every time Thiim served bcuz we all knew it was a 50/50 ball. He said it himself in a previous OOO podcast (not the last one) that he didnt do his job as a serving sub in the UCLA title game.
Man I wish UH will play BYU at the Stan

usctrojans.com/sports/mens-volleyball/schedule/2025Outrigger Invitational (March 13-15) - Penn State, USC, Ball State, Hawaii Good rpi schedule so far with the addition of the two Harvard matches to start the season. Sprinkle in a few gems out east (CC, NEC, more EIVA would be ideal). So that means for Hawaii: Thu, Mar 13 - Ball State Fri, Mar 14 - Penn State Sat, Mar 15 - USC ahhh frek I just realized I'll miss the Outrigger as I'll be flying out on the 14th!! I thought they usually schedule it on the 1st week of March?!?

None of this matters. All those players are gone and D1 rosters are currently over saturated with more players than they need or stand a chance to see the court. This 18 player limit can’t come fast enough, at least now all coaches will have to narrow their focus on players who are recruited vs just offered. If some of these reserve players make their way onto some mid/lower tier rosters, I wonder if we see A LOT more parity in the season… The 18 player limit is already making an impact on recruiting, some 2025 recruits have received offers only to have the schools rescind

At least this way some of that talent can get on rosters you wouldn’t expect to be competitive. I would love to see that.

Fortunately, Hawaii already has exactly 18 on this year's team. Four spots are available next year with the graduation and exit of the seniors, Eleu, Kawai, Zachary, and Clay. Kurt will graduate academically, and is chomping at the bit to get into business, however he has another year of athletic eligibility, so he may/may not stay to play.
So Hawaii will have four and maybe five spots for next years' recruiting class (Assuming mid-season cuts won't happen again and/or other players leave for other reasons).
Do we know the recruits in the pipeline? Roman Payne & Kainoa Wade have verbally committed, are there any more? I've been following Roman's sister Kayla Payne playing middle as a sophomore at CU, she's a beast. I'm excited to see Roman as a Warrior and I believe he has potential to be the top MB in the country. Any speculation on others?
