Looks like Hawaii seed #3 plays UCSB or CSUN. First night BWC I don't expect the first round to be a cakewalk either. UCSB took Hawaii to 5 and CSUN defeated Hawaii both at home. CSUN didn't win both to Hawaii. It was 1-1. But other than that. Point taken. Which is why this Hawaii staff doesn't take anyone for granted.

Really wondering what is going on with Chaz Galloway. Being a Senior, is he Okay with not playing? I mean, as much as we all like Keoni Thiim, he cannot be that much better then Chaz Galloway, that Keoni is able to take the Starting Outside Hitter position away from Chaz Galloway. With all the playing experience Chaz Galloway has, it seems that Chaz has quit trying. You would think Chaz would fight for his Starting Outside Hitting Position, but I just do not see it. Give Keoni Thiim credit, he worked and fought for the Starting Outside Hitter position. I have no idea why the people on this board dog on Thiim so much, he is statistically a better outside than both Chaz and Louis. I guess none of you actually check stats but on the year he is hitting .278 compared to Chaz (.266) and Louis (.248) while also having more service aces and digs per set. I genuinely don't understand the hate, or the meat riding for the other two. It's almost like you all pray on his downfall. I believe it's because many don't like that Keoni plays with a chip on his shoulder. Keoni has done an admirable job alongside Louis since Spyros went down and with Chaz struggling to get healthy.

It's obvious that Thiim is more consistent than Sakanoko. The difference is Thiim has struggled on OOS sets and against a well formed block and Sakanoko has been able to create kills on those uglier sets as well as provide a consistent back row threat. If Hakas were still healthy Thiim might be a viable option being the more consistent of the two, but we have seen UH struggle when passing breaks down, and they need someone who can put down the ball on any given set. I believe that Thiim's height is a major factor. He needs a good transition and at least a three-step approach to get up high enough to terminate against a well formed block. It gets increasingly harder the longer the rally goes and the more Keoni has to transition off the net. Technique wise, he is solid and with more height and all things remaining the same, would be similar to a Spyros Chakas.

Yeah I can understand that. I suppose it just comes down to whether Wade values consistency or termination more. Truthfully I'd like to seem him put Louis at Opposite and have Thiim and Chaz at outside.

My “beef” with Keoni is not that I have an issue with him playing with a chip on his shoulder. I would like to see him use his energy more wisely. He did a good job last night.
Scoring one point does not necessitate a holler at the top of your lung and a flex. Some may think it’s no big deal but every ounce of energy one uses unnecessarily is one that can be conserved for more production use. Constant waste of energy will impact you later in the match.
Him being only 6ft, he already needs to exert extra energy just to jump when attacking and blocking. I would like see him just pump his fist and go “YEAH” and go earn the next point..
That’s all. I’ve always like the kid’s energy. Just use it wisely.

Todd has been the most consistent hitter with the ability to terminate OOS, so I think he needs to be in there as well.

I really think they still have a good shot of winning the Big West playoffs even without Hakas, if they can stay focused and healthy.

Poor Spyros. Everyone is confusing him with our Wahine volleyball player Tali.
I think we owe it to Spyros to get his name spelled correctly. It is his identity.
Spyros Chakas
Tali Hakas
Mahalo 👍

I noticed that even Eleu has toned it down a little. He and Keoni used to be the dynamic duo of screaming after each point. We have no depth at OH so any type of overly excited celebration where players jumping on each other could result in sprain ankle or twisted knee or some unfortunate injury. Really no need to be overly excited until we win the national championship in LB. 😁 When your roster is so bare boned, it wise to play it smart. Justin Todd is out of consideration of playing this season. I don’t even think he was on the travel roster. I didn’t see him on the sideline yesterday. If any unfortunate injury happens, my guess is Kai Taylor is the next man up. He has yet to take a swing in the front row but was recruited as an OH so he knows the position.

You have a point in regards to energy conservation. As a counter, in college I played with many girls who needed to play with a verve that was specific to them in order to play well. It was a personality trait. When they were told to tone it down, they didn't play quite the same. I wonder how much Keoni can reserve until he stops playing his game. Either way, I hope he continues to do well for his team.

At Thiim's age and athletic condition, I'd expect him to have the energy to play five sets at his max and celebrate all he wants.
I've known men twice his age to never exercise outside of their work, and demonstrate remarkable strength and endurance without sleep and under life and death stress for three straight days, putting much younger men to shame. Good genetics, incredible will and training, and entirely self-motivated.
If Thiim celebrating is what sparks his plug, let it happen. As long as he's energizing his teammates, not the competition.
