Clearly something is going on with Murray’s life outside of volleyball. You don’t get a DUI and shoplift unless something personal is happening. I don’t know if it is a cry for help, but I hope she gets whatever she needs to make better life decisions. This is bigger than just volleyball and I hope the Nebraska program is able to help her get back on the right path. Well I wouldn’t lump one with the other. The DUI is obviously an immature and irresponsible choice., one that lots of people have made at one time In Their life. Stealing small things you have more than enough money for is totally different dynamic.

2 is the over / under for the # of people on this thread who torture small animals on a daily basis. First bet is free.

The naivety of people commenting that this wouldn’t surface on VT with its own thread is a choice.

Varied responses, unsurprisingly.
I am dismayed by the responses who treat the relationship between athlete and university as purely transactional. I suppose with the transfer portal and the NIL many of the fan's true feelings about athletes that they profess to love and care about comes bubbling forth. Lots of rationalizing about DUI and shoplifting running the entire range.
I am far from being a psychologist, and Harper Murray, and/or Nebraska certain won't need little old me to pass judgement. The thing is, here are two data points now, there are conclusions that can be drawn, better conclusions that from one data point.
If the universities who recruit players by promising their families that they are a family (most of the time this is just lip service), or that they will protect their family members while they are matriculating at the university are serious about their promises, this is the time to step up. Indeed, the transfer portal and NIL has performed the magic on that claim as well. Like any relationship, you expect loyalty for loyalty, love given back for love shown. Those are just human expectations, which has been tested by the number of transfers.
Will UNL step up and take care of Murray as a beloved member of their athletic family? Will they do what is best for Murray and not just for the university and the athletic program? Will they treat their relationship with her as purely transactional? Will they try to have it both ways? I can't rightly say. Some will try to extrapolate UNL's previous decisions to fit this situation? Even though the context and the previous decisions are too different to expect an accurate prediction of UNL's reaction.
I hope that Harper Murray lives a long and happy life, that this is a just a blip in her lifelong narrative, a significant blip but hopefully a blip. I hope that UNL does the "right" thing, whatever that may be. Right for all involved in the long term.

How about if there are any more arrests she’s kicked off the team. Hopefully, with the proper consequences and interventions that won’t happen.

One thing is for sure: HM has undeniable star power. Three UCLA basketball players got arrested for shoplifting something way more expensive, in a different country AND the president got involved—yet she all by herself got a whole lot more people upset. They just happened to steal in a country where they could have gone to Jail for a LONG TIME. Its a very different situation.

She's a bad person and a good volleyball player. So what? Nebraska volleyball is there to win matches, not to make these athletes into nuns. That's what parents and therapists are for. No one cares if she stole a couple of rings. Not like most people have never stolen anything in their lives. Leave it alone and just let her play volleyball. No one is really bothered if she DUI'd or stole some meaningless junk from a store. I think most of us just want to see her match up against Texas again. Maybe I'm misreading the room but am I right or wrong on this one? You’re misreading the planet. 😂😂😂 I want to be as whitty as you when I grow up

She's a bad person and a good volleyball player. I don't think she's necessarily a bad person. She's certainly made some really bad decisions, but I'm not ready to write her off as a bad person at 19 years old.

I don't need to explain. i've been around for a long time. my mother died at the hands of a college student DUI, so i'm not going to sit down and have this happen to anyone again. now get off my back. And would your mom be proud of you for dedicating an anonymous forum to posting deranged things about an obviously struggling teenage woman..? I think we know the answer to that, homie… we’ve gone over this with them on so many threads - it’s unhealthy tbh but I don’t think we can make it clear enough to them that we get it
