Question for our west coast friends..
Anyone aware of a SoCal Cup Expansion and what it is? Are they just other "cups" or big events? On their website they have six new cups listed..
NorCal, Desert, Midway, Lone Star, Sunshine, and Music City.

VT peeps have said that their regional USAV organizations do a decent job so maybe it will be stiffer competition in other regions, but SCVA/USAV is getting smaller every year and Socal Cup events are getting bigger at a very quick rate. There is always room for improvement and they seem to be progressive and have been adapting and improving continuously. IMO the big events still have the most room for improvement (LA convention center and food options not good)... the one day events have been the best product.

Sport wrench sucks. AAU refs are horrible (including the SoCal Cup refs). Otherwise the AAU switch has been good.

(Repost) NorCal cup just finished up last weekend San Jose convention center and food was better than LaCC. $100 protest rule was funny and all star game was a blast. Think volleyball festival www.norcalcupvolleyball.comSimilar to the SocalCup-SCVA/USVA split, There’s a movement to go independent of NCVA/USVA with the West Coast Volleyball Association. This is led by the two top clubs in the area, MVVC (Mountain View) and Bay to Bay. www.wcvba.com/boysInteresting, as I believe the SCVA and the boys club directors really don’t get along for years, but in the North there was mutual peace between NCVA and club directors until now This might be more of a USVA issue making sure boys get a say at the table…

AES is better and still doing fine but I heard it is very expensive to use. Sportwrench has been fine IMO once I got used to it.
More competition for the regionals should make them better if they choose to adapt and make their product the best one so they get picked. It seems like SCVA decided to never change and they don't seem to care much that they lost the boys. If people remember, when SCVA was running the one dat events they never used AES and did off a Google doc or something far inferior to sportswrench or AES. It was a mess... they use sportwrench now...

I believe this "Coming Soon" announcement is what prompted the OP to ask the question. It looks like a plan outflank any number of volleyball tournament hosting organizations on a national level. I assume "Midway" is the Chicago area and "Music City" may mean Nashville or perhaps Detroit. As someone planning the schedules for my Midwestern club's boys teams, I would be interested in knowing what they have in mind, as well and/or if they will be seeking to cannibalize some of the events we are planning to send our teams to.

That’s my biggest concern. You add these 6 events to the docket, you are now looking at 12-15 national or regional based convention center events in a 16 week winter season (starting the first weekend of November). Unfortunately boys volleyball isn’t big enough yet to justify this many national level events.

Agreed. Although I am happy there is a lot of interest being shown in being the “better” source for putting on Boys Volleyball events, you are always one greedy short cutter away from screwing a lot of people over. I don’t know how reputable all of these individuals are and if their ability to host a legit tournament is worth investing into or if it’s just vultures looking to scoop in and see if they are able to scavenge
