Here's Massey's prediction for the final standings (projection based on odds)
16-0 South Dakota 14-2 Omaha (both losses to USD, 3 close away matches)
10.5-5.5 Denver 10-6 ......SDSU 9.5-6.6 ..NDSU
6-10 North Dakota
3-13 St Thomas 3-13 Kansas City 0-16 Oral Roberts
Somewhat similar to my guess, but I think Massey is still using some data from last year, biasing the prediction a little.

Don’t like this one at all (not thrilled with you placement of the Tommies, either) I think the Tommies are gonna get more than 3 wins in conference play. I wanna see 9+ wins (better than .500)… and of course what I want is the most important factor!

LOL I'd love to see who is closest at the end of the season, You, me or Massey (or the RPI projections on VT). Happy to eat crow! Non-conference results are hard to get a reading on sometimes. I could be way off base. Opponents who SHOULD be a certain rank sometimes reveal themselves to be much better or worse later in the season. I've got the Tommies in the 6-team conference tournament for the first time in their history. Definitely in the conference middle tier somewhere. And YES, they absolutely will get more than 3 wins in the conference. I see them maybe at 7-9 or 8-8? To me that would represent a major step forward as they transfer toward being fully funded on scholarships.

I really didn’t think South Dakota was going to be the favorite again after losing Harms but man these FRESHMEN!!! does Medeck have a shot at FOY and POY? I’m hoping Omaha gets Jurgensmeier more involved on D balls and serve receive bics and runs less dub subs but until then, Medeck kinda feels like the favorite?

I mean, I once did an inventory of all the Summit POY going back decades,... should have posted it. But I remember a preference for seniors winning that award. The conference winning team was not always the winner, but it was usually a top-4 team, and almost always a senior. Also, Medeck was playing back row only for the first 4 or 5 games, so her stats are muted a little bit. I'll be interested to see if she can "catch up" stats-wise, but I think that ship has flown this season. Jurgensmeier also has to "catch up" statistically, but at least she is an upper-classman. Another possibility is the kills and points leader for a few weeks now, SDSU's Sylvie Zgonc. She's only a Sophomore, but if she leads in kills/set all season.... Now, for FOY I do think Medeck has a legit shot. I couldn't follow the last match vs St Louis, but Medeck hit terribly in that one, she had the same number of targets as two other hitters, but only 4 kills on the match. Not sure what was happening, but she may have simply had an "off day" or St Louis was able to focus on her somewhat? Freshman stuff. I remember in an interview that Elizabeth Juhnke had to learn how to deal with teams focusing on her, and it was a process throughout her Sophomore season. So I think Medeck (and the rest of our starting freshmen) will have some ups and downs. I'm not counting any championships before they are hatched. But the future is bright!

I wonder if Van Hook would have a chance at only a sophomore

Coach Williamson was an all-american OH/S at Milwaukee as a player, and has coached a number of all-conference Setters here, Brittany Jessen from Minneapolis (Northern Lights) won it three times in a row for the Yotes! (2015-2017). Madison Jurgens (Odell, NE) won it in 2019 as a Soph.

I need to re-start my SummitLeagueNetwork subscription so I can watch the matches I don’t get to in person. Do it! If you’re a fan of one of the teams it’s worth it IMHO. Only a couple of years ago about half the teams in the conference had home matches hidden behind team-specific paywalls (unless it was picked up by ESPN+). I’m irritated if I can’t watch all the Coyote matches, so it’s been a better situation for me. Not every broadcast is high quality, but at least we can watch them all.

MidcoSports is making it difficult. - Log in, and try to go to my account settings. It brings up a new page with my info, and then replaces it all with an "Oops! Something went wrong" message. Try again later, as suggested, with no change. Go to the help site listed on the Oops page, and it's just a FAQ that doesn't help solve anything.
- Their Live Chat page fails to have the "Chat" icon that they tell me to click on to start a chat.
- I've sent in a "Help" request using their floating-help button, and supposedly they'll get back to me shortly.
Unimpressed.

The Summit's must-watch matches this weekend:
Thursday:
7PM CT NDSU Bison @ St Thomas Tommies (undercard match) The Tommies have slowly but surely been getting up to speed in D-1 after a long successful career at D-III. They have been adding scholarships every year to be fully-funded, and have had some incremental success on the court under long-time HC Pham. This year they were picked to finish 8th again in the preseason, but have surprised with a very successful non-conference season... but will that translate to an upgrade in conference finish? and some upsets in conference play? I think so. But just how good are the 2024 Tommies? This match should tell us a lot!
The wrong team is favored! Massey: Bison win 3-1 kiyoat: Tommies win 3-1
7PM CT USD Coyotes @ Denver Pios (main event) South Dakota and Denver have had a rivalry over the last 6 years. Denver has been a dominant Summit team between the 2013-2020 seasons, winning 6 of 8 regular season titles, and 5 of 8 Tournament titles (4 in a row). South Dakota has been a dominant Summit team between the 2016 and 2023 seasons, winning 4 of 8 regular seasons, and 4 of 8 tournament titles (3 in a row). These teams are tied in the all-time series, 14-14 and have played 5-set matches many times recently, often involving reverse-sweeps. Denver was picked 2nd in the preseason, with USD 3rd. Both teams have looked good in the non-conference, but USD has more P-4 and upset wins.
One of these teams will come away from this match as an early-season front-runner.
Massey: Yotes win 3-1 kiyoat: Yotes win 3-2
Saturday
1PM CT North Dakota @ Kansas City (undercard) Last year the Roos earned their first Summit regular-season (co-)championship, and earned the right to host the 2024 tournament. This year they were picked 5th in the preseason, and ended up with an under-whelming non-conference disaster. They are currently ranked 8th out of 9 teams in Massy, RPI and RPI futures. North Dakota, on the other hand, was picked 7th, and has had a very good non-conference season. These two teams represent a contrast in trajectories, but is perception reality?
Massey: UND wins 3-2 kiyoat: UND wins 3-1
2PM CT SDSU @ Denver (main event) The Jacks, doormats of the Summit for over a decade, have had a resurgence under HC Dan Georgalas. He has gradually brought them up to a middle-tier 5th or 6th-ranked team, who has upset or nearly upset the top-tier teams in the conference tournament. In the past three seasons, Georgalas's Jacks have played Denver in the first round of the Summit tournament, going 1-2 against them.
This season the Jacks were picked #6 in the preseason after some massive roster turnover in the off-season, but have gone undefeated in the non-conference season! They have been led by 2023 Freshman of the Year OH Sylvie Zgonc and SD native and former Louisville Cardinal 6-5 MB Sydni Schetnan. Sylvie leads the conference in kills/set and points/ set. But are the Jacks paper tigers against a soft non-con? Time to find out!
Massey: Denver wins 3-2 kiyoat: SDSU wins 3-2

Unimpressed. Yikes! sorry about that. Hopefully they will rectify it. The issue I had last year was I had to use a browser to stream from my phone rather than the app. This year I figured out my mistake. You just change a setting in the app. ( I thought I had to change a phone setting). So hopefully that makes sense to avoid the same issue. I've had zero billing issues or any problems streaming games on my Roku devices at home.
