Hello, Just wanted to see what everyone's picks is for the Canada team for the Olympics. Mine are:
S: Herr, Walsh Opp: Swarac, Ketrynzini OH: Loeppky, Maar, Hoag, Barnes MB: van Berkel, Eshenko, Demyanenko Lib: Lui
This leaves off Hofer and McCarthy essentially. I think they bring McCarthy as the alternate. The biggest question is if McCarthy>Demyanenko? Or they go 3 OH and leave Barnes, but I feel like they don't use their middles as much in attack like the US does. However, their blocking has been huge this summer so maybe it is a possibility? What's everyones thoughts?

Hofer provides more utility than Barnes. Good things happen when Hofer is on the court. Also the reality is Barnes is never getting any meaningful minutes.

Who is the backup lib in this situation or do they bring a lib as an alternate?

That's probably where the emotion came from when Eshenko came off court. He probably knew that he was in the conversation. Also agree that Hofer has actually seen the court.

S: Herr, Walsh Opp: Swarac, Ketrynzini OH: Loeppky, Maar, Hoag, *Hofer MB: van Berke, Demyanenko, *McCarthy Lib: Lui
then maybe Currie or Barnes as official alternate? Either or works, Barnes has experience at OH but with 4 already they should be fine
I like the youth and vets mix here. Ket, Hofer, McCarthy and Lui are all around 22 years old, and thats a solid group to continue next cycle and cycle after that. Mixed with the vets of Maar, Hoag, Van Berke, etc its a solid team/group

What's everyone’s thoughts? Hofer is their best serving sub though. Every team has one left side who can also play as the second libero given the 12 man roster. Barnes goes for that reason imo. Hoag is the serving sub. It’s too bad they haven’t looked at Loeppky on the right. He was awesome there during the club season. Xander isn’t ready for prime time. Hofer has more value.

Thank god they got rid of BenJo.
Tomas is amazing. You can see that everybody on the team trust his technical acumen and is ready to run through a brick wall for him if asked.

Next Sunday (June 30th) is the deadline set by VC for them to name their roster, whether that is made public right away, I'm not sure. I'm looking forward to seeing the 12(13) selected, though realistically, it's the last 1-2 spots that are seemingly uncertain at this point.

I would bring Currie over Barnes if it comes down to a decision between those two. We have enough depth at LS (Hofer can play left or right in a pinch), but if Lui gets injured or is struggling, Currie is much better at libero than Barnes.

theres no space^ unless bring currie over ket because hofer and even loeppky can play RS if Swarzac isn't playing well

This would be my prediction:
S: Herr, Walsh Opp: Swarac, Ketrynzini OH: Loeppky, Maar, Hoag, Hofer MB: van Berkel, McCarthy, Demyanenko Lib: Lui
I actually think McCarthy is a lock for the MB spot, it will probably come down to either Demyanenko or Eshenko for that last spot. I can also see a scenario where they won't bring the second OPP but take the 4th MB instead so Ket out and Eshenko in.
