Bummed about the team not making the finals. On the bright side, Anderson and Shoji had a great match. It also looks like the boys are having so much fun in the Philippines. The crowd support is great. The next game against Japan will be insane! I hope the guys can take the W. Go USA! Not you making that GIF of Ethan Champlin your pfp! We stan!!

Argentina's sweep of Bulgaria unfortunately blocks the USA out of the top 8 by set ratio. Even if the USA sweep Japan that puts their set ratio at 0.4889(22/45) and ARG at 0.4894(23/47) which is only very slightly higher. Hopefully they still close out the VNL strong against Japan. While it is disappointing to not see them in the finals, I still believe a lot in this group. They didn't entirely look out of depth in the matches and had injured key players that were not playing or were playing injured. I think because of them being older they might need more time to rev up. Personally, I have more belief in the men's team than the women's team despite the women technically having a better result. Shucks! I was hoping the men would make it through. I also believe in this group and want to see them take it in Paris!

Does Germany have the tallest middles on any of the national teams?

Does Germany have the tallest middles on any of the national teams? I think so? They certainly look very big on screen. I think Russia would give me a run for tallest middles if they were playing.

The commentator isn’t wrong - in all other countries including Canada the rotation is what zone the setter is in. In American rotation 5, Micah is in zone 3 and thus everywhere else in the world he is “ro 3” Funny bit of trivia and always something Americans have to learn their first year playing pro American ro 1 = int’l ro 1 American ro 2 = int’l ro 6 American ro 3 = int’l ro 5 Etc I’m not American, I’m Canadian. I have never learned or taught it the international way, but good to know, thanks! Oh nice!! I am Canadian too!! Small world 😊 I’m curious where you are from? We used FIVB rotations for all of my canada youth, university, and FTC training. Not saying one is right or wrong, just curious

Pet peeve: Commentators who are not intelligent re: When Micah C is in 5, that does not mean it's rotation 5 - it's rotation 3. Almost wishing for Anne and Emily (jk, but sorta serious) lol. I can never get used to and don't like. Question I have had for a while, in a 6-2, what is the rotation for American row 4,5,6?

Where's Ben Patch when you need him? Sorry too soon? There's a name I haven't heard in a while! I remember that he was freakishly physical but I don't remember too many standout moments. Does he still play? Now this comment... definitely too soon!

I think Matt/TJ + Kyle is better than Garrett/TJ + Matt (at least for the personnel they have in the VNL). Now I know Ensing isn't the best Oppo. He's not very terminal but he doesn't spray errors like Garrett does and would probably get more points because of the tempo that they run him on the right and he's honestly a better blocker than Matt is. Garrett is a pretty decent passer but I don't think Matt would be that much worse for much more offense. I don't think they would be willing to do this though since they're set on Matt hitting mainly on the right though. Matt/TJ + Kyle might be better in current lineup but Garrett is the best choice to bring to Olympics with Ron and Tom in the line up so it is good to get him some reps now. With a healthy Ron, Tom and TJ as pin options, the USA's best OPP option is Matt. Speraw knows what he is doing, trust him and I hope it works in Paris. It is our best chance.
