yes i kind of agree. That's concerning for LA2028, but not to worry about now. agree, and that is what is the most dissapointing about this VNL it turns out it was all about experimenting and Speraw had 3 guys play extensive (4 counting Dagostino) that I question will become major contributors in LA2028, so why not try to take a flyer to get Hanes or Briggs out there more, two guys I could see contribuing more in 2028. I just don't see Garret, Ensign, or Ma'a being major contributors even this summer, let alone 2028; for all the expereimentation, Speraw didn't take much risk in what was pretty much a lost cause tournament from the get go. Didn't even go with TJ on the right as an option. Garrett is the only guy that'll see some time, and only when receiving goes south and SPeraw tries to get a short term jolt of passing improvement, but that'll only work for a set or half a set at best during Paris. I agree they will not be great contributions for LA2028. Garret is old and offensively he produces nothing, even negative. He always has reception errors, although overall decent, because of how strong the service today. I don't really want to see him in LA2028. He can return to his family life. Ma'a cannot be main setter, Christenson will have one more squad, maybe developing Rowan? not sure, setting has some options to go. Ensing, interesting, I wonder what he developed these years, starting from 2019/2020. I don't understand how other countries produce oppo talents(Faure from France, Darlan from Brazil, Mozic from Slovenia, Lubric from Slovenia etc) why USA has completely nothing and they all completely suck these years. There must be a reason. TJ has been an oppo in some rotations, sometimes it looks awkward, sometimes OK. Anderson helps pass more balls which is good for the team as TJ can focus more on offense. I don't know what it looks like when Tommy/Aaron come back. I think maybe this continues.

You guys know Muagututia is going to be 40 by the time the LA Games get here, right? He will not be part of that roster. Also we should not be expecting two 41 year olds (Holt and Anderson) or one 43 year old (Smith) to be around. If for some reason any of these four are still representing the US at that point then I fear what has become of this team lol. I wish Jendryk/Averil learns how to block/close gaps quickly, which is said on the forum many times, but meh. I understand this requires experience, but Averil is more than 30 years old and he does not seem to improve a lot on this. Maybe he will, by LA2028. oppos are the most concerning, maybe one NCAA OH will need to step up and convert to oppo. The highest hope is on Gabi Garcia, who does not show potential today after playing three years professionally.

Ensing won't be in Paris. or Hanes and Speraw keeps Ma'a around because? his huge impact as a serving sub? that fantastic setting? or Garrett? bottom line is this team is about 9 or 10 deep. every player after that has a ways to go to make any marked impact Curious what's your thoughts on Gabi and his potential for Paris? He'll be spending next season on the bench behind Rychlicki for Trentino. Kinda a waste tbh if he doesn't get playing time. Gabi is playing pro in Greece next season.

I though Ma'a played well today. He has only come in for serving up until this point. You cannot expect him to have a lot of experience setting with a new set of players. He is an overall player. Today , he picked up several balls that might have been out. He serves well and his connection with the middles is excellent.

He is so good at it that our Volleyball Federation even gifted him a PHI NT jacket and he wore this during the game yesterday

Too many 6-2s combined with 12 subs means there’s a high likelihood that OPPs are being subbed out at some point for either a DS or 6-2. 12-13 player rosters with so many subs almost encourages coaches to play their OPPs only 3 rotations, which leads to every top athlete wanting to play OH to guarantee they’re on the court. At a young age, all the top athletes are identified as mostly setters and OHs, not OPP unless they’re a lefty. For it being the most important offensive position at the intl level, we don’t do a good job of cultivating a talent pool ages 16-18. It seems like we’re always playing catch up by trying to swing kids who played OH their whole life to the OPP side in college or after.

Mt apologies, I hadn't heard that. In that case... I get the financial appeal of playing in Italy, but he's not going to develop there. It's a shame. I'm sure he'll make some USA rosters as a backup at the beginning of next quad but if he continues thus route, he won't be a factor come LA2028.

With how things turned out in the end, would winning that match against Japan given them a berth lot the finals? I know it was close.

I finally watched the match and was entertained - I like how anytime Micah, TJ, Nishida, Ishikawa was shown on the screen the audience erupted in cheers 😂 felt like they were members of One Direction or something
US: I’m kinda over Kessel, he’s basically a worst Garrett (got aced so many times) and does not provide much on offense (even Japan’s coach said he’s a weak attacker in a time out). The US was in it in sets 2 and 3 but Japan would have a key server go back and rip off several aces to close each set, Shoji didn’t have his best passing match probably trying to cover Kessel/Ewert
Japan: I think the debate between who the 4th OH that will make it to Paris is interesting (Otsuka vs Tomita). IMO: Kai is going (with Ran and Ishikawa). Past matches told me it would be Otsuka, but he didn’t contribute much offensively and Tomita was subbed in and had more success finding the floor. Both are good passers, I think Otsuka is still a little bit better/more well rounded so I would go with him as the 4th OH (which helps balance Kai who is def more of an offensive OH)

The players are just having fun also. Larry, one of the Japanese MBs have this flex thing he does when he scores, and when the USA scores specially on Larry or his error, TJ will do the flex too Micah and TJ were so energetic on the sidelines leading the USA chants Also sidenote, Matt and Micah both took off their jerseys after the match and gave it away to fans. A couple of USA players gave away signed shoes and shirts at the Fan Zone too. Felt like an exhibition match / fans day tbh lol
