no shade Brazil doesn’t really deserve anyone on dream team lol, gabi was horrible against USA and I feel like Chiaka and Danesi have been more impactful than Carol or Thaisa thaisa has been good she had 17 points today and didn’t she have like 8 kills on 12 swings vs USA ? I feel like she can’t control that she only got set 12 times in 5 sets

Interesting stat: Vargas scored 159 points (!) this olympics. Here is how she would compare on the overall point leaderboard if it was the:
Sydney 2000: 3rd, behind Jelic (204) and Godina (166) Athens 2004: 3rd, behind Gamova (204) and Sokolova (162) Beijing 2008: 1st London 2012: 3rd, behind KYK (207) and Hooker (161) Rio 2016: 2nd, behind Zhu Ting (179) Tokyo 2020/2021: 2nd, behind Boskovic (192)
insane she did this with only 6 matches instead of 8.

I'm not sure I would consider that insane, as it's probably a better argument to compare the sets played instead of matches. Vargas played in 24 sets in Paris = 6.63 pps The following is based off my assumption these leading scorers also appeared in every set because I'm simply too lazy to check them all: 2021- Boskovic, 25 sets = 7.68 pps 2016- Zhu Ting, 31 sets = 5.77 pps 2012- KYK, 31 sets = 6.68 pps and Hooker, 27 sets = 5.96 pps 2004- Gamova and Sokolova, 32 sets = 6.38 pps and 5.06 pps, respectively 2000- Jelic, 29 sets = 7.03 pps and Godina, 33 sets = 5.03 pps She would rank 4th, behind the leading scorers of the 2021, 2000 & 2012 Games and ahead of the leading scorers of the 2004, 2008 & 2016 Games.

no shade Brazil doesn’t really deserve anyone on dream team lol, gabi was horrible against USA and I feel like Chiaka and Danesi have been more impactful than Carol or Thaisa I wouldn't say she was horrible. Her KP was 31.9%, but her efficiency suffered due to USA block focusing her. But from VM stats that avid 2.0 posted, she passed 3.00 on 15 attempts, so that's something. More importantly, I feel like dream team is based on narrative arc (e.g. Carol Gattaz) and tournament-wide performance. She's the second-highest scorer in the tournament after Vargas. Her hitting efficiency is 0.374, which is the highest of any pin hitter. She also has the most blocks and blocks per set of all pin hitters. She's the best passer by a large margin, with FIVB marking her at 76.0% success rate.

Now that Brazil has won bronze, here’s my guess for best position awards: OH: Gabi, Sylla MB: some combo of Ogbogu, Danesi, and Carol S: Poulter OPP: Egonu (or Vargas if Italy wins) L: MDG MVP: Drews (or Plummer if she has a BIG match) if USA wins, Egonu if Italy wins USA doesn’t really lead anything statistically besides setting, so Poulter (and maybe Chi) are the most likely to get anything. But who knows that the FIVB/IOC pull 🤪 Based on the Men's Dream Team, it will look nothing like this

If we are talking Dream Team, Bosetti is robbed blind if she doesnt make it. Shes quietly been an absolute rock for this Italy team, allowing Egonu, Orro, and the middles to do their thing. Not just defensively but shes come up with some very important, smart kills and a few key blocks.
MVP is obviously Egonu

It's nice to see that all three women's teams going home with a medal used their alternate, therefore giving everyone a medal!
