Ok. Put a poll up at season end of who people think the best setter of the season was, and if Fairbanks receives a majority of votes, I’ll happily issue an apology to you. You realize she was ACC setter of the year, 1st team all american, and selected for the final 6 team right? These coaches must all be idiots. Well there is plenty of nuance there. In the ACC she only actually had to beat out Elle Glock, which is hardly something to give support for her being the best setter in the country. Re First TeamAll American, the fact that Pitt made the final four and needed SOMEONE on the first team doesn’t, by default, make her the best setter in the country. She wasn’t actually on the final 6 roster, and the last time she played a USAV event she was pretty mediocre (don’t take my word for it, ask others here on volleytalk). I’m not saying Fairbanks isn’t good, but based on historical play, I have a hard time seeing her as actually the best player to play setter for this upcoming season. I’m open to being proven wrong. As I said, let’s see what the collective thinks at season end.

I know I'm breaking your rules... 6-2, but get Scott in as a DS once or twice for Franklin S - Tuaniga, Miner OH - Skinner, Franklin RS - Martin, Beason MH - Booth, Allick L/DS - Rodriguez, Scott Serving sub - Haworth
On my bench: Rubin Fischer Babcock Cat Flood (that hair is worth 3 points/set)
*Allick is there more for blocking because I have plenty of offense, and to bother the people who get mad about her "antics."

Agreed… although when I tried to get creative with my own lineup and pick someone besides Miner and Reilly, I got stuck. Aside from those two, who are the real contenders at S? A healthy Stuckey? I love Kerr but she isn’t there yet.

Haworth and probably Camryn Turner. and if you’re going 6-2 that opens up smaller setter that go to smaller schools to run 5-1s (that have top school talent) such as Logan Case.

so is starting Allick over Fischer, even if you ignored their gigantic offensive difference

Love the Turner shout out, she’s underrated by some I feel. She has really good hands and her mobility/ability to chase down balls is great!

People loved Gabby Blossom and I don't see much difference between her and Tuaniga. For middles, I even said that part of my choice for Allick was to upset the people who are bothered by her - and she gets better block touches according to VM's numbers (only a 20.5% Err% on her touches).

Fairbanks might not be the frontrunner for top setter in the nation, but she's a proven competitor who is worthy of being in the conversation. She wouldn't have all of her accolades and accomplishments if she was just mediocre. IMO, one "mediocre" USAV tournament isn't enough to leave her out of the discussion. I do acknowledge I have some bias.

If Fairbanks were as elite as claimed, Pitt wouldn't spend so much time having her either sit or hit under .200 (and take Buzzerio/Babcock off court) just to get stuck for three rotations with a non-elite setter struggling to side them out.
