I’m not sure why people aren’t discussing Champlin enough on here. In my opinion, he has a very similar game to Defalco Physically, And is already more emotionally mature. I have high hopes for him, I think he will have a legit shot in 2028.

I’m not opposed to him and for sure hear very positive things about his overall game and skill set Champlin is discussed a lot. yes, he is on everyone's radar including Speraw and is getting his share of chances. He does not have TJ's arm. Of the 2024 roster, his game is most similar to Tom's I would say.

Also I think his leadership and maturity is a big plus. I think his feet are just a tad slow compared with TJ or Ewert, but I think him and Pasteur are very promising. Champlin is a very consistent steady player which is so so important as you can see when you compare someone like Matt with TJ

The reality is simply these next gen guys need to get into the Italian, polish, Japan or Turkish leagues…. Maybe to France teams Finnish, Dutch, Belgian, Swiss, Greece, Bulgarian etc leagues will not cut it. Now make the VNL roster next year and get that A team status while some 1st teamers take a summer off and your resume automatically changes. Akbar is spot on like usual. Any speculation about new comers to the roster for 2028 is a shot in the dark. I know there will be someone but it could be any of a dozen or two players. There is no obvious guys at the moment from what I see. That is the most common scenario for guys out of the NCAA. Especially with the past 4 years where the team was very experienced, highly ranked and the roster was in the fine tuning stage. When Micah C, Taylor S, Eric, Matt came out of school the team was not as good and they got plugged in fast and it either happened in the first 6 months or we knew it was a sure thing based on NCAA play like MA. TJ came out when the team was more defined but it was obvious he was going to contribute based on his play the last 2 years of NCAA. I don't see anyone like that out there at the moment but there are a lot of guys that have the potential but are not sure things.

Some of these guys might make a big jump.

I think this always comes back to we need a pro league in the US. We can't count on our players going to Europe after college. At this point, we can because so many of the top players are Europeans. When's the last time NPOY was American?

When's the last time NPOY was American? Gabi Garcia in 2020, and if we don’t count him, DeFalco in 2019.

Don't forget Flexen...lots of potential and improving through USA vball this summer. Lots of hope for our future with these young guys! From what I've seen, Flexen is no where in the realm of being a good enough passer to make the team, much less start. Granted he's younger and can improve, but he has a long, long way to go.
